What more could you want from a flop than Top Pair good kicker as well as an open ended straight draw? Call him and take his chips, you've got 8 outs to the nut or near-nut straight, you've got another 5 outs for a good shot of winning. You are also chip leader, you should be the one to force these guys all in, take his chips man.

    i'd call for sure.

you have top pair with a good kicker. you raised preflop, and they just called. if they had AK, QQ, JJ, TT they would all reraise. 98 is a possibility, and that is the ONLY hand you should be worried about.

but still, you outchip them a lot, you have 8 outs to the nuts, and 2 more for trip queens, and 3 kings. since the 3 kings might not be good, we should count those as half outs, so 1.5. the 2 queens coming in will set up a redraw to a full house, so add 0.5 out for that.

you have 12 outs to beat them. with 12 outs you have more than 3:1 pot odds to call.

    himself fucker.
I'd call. In HU play, it's very common for the short chip stack to push everytime they have a pair becuase they need every pot. You can't really put him on a better hand that a pair or a draw becuase he didn't want to play it, he simply wanted to put you to the test and gamble. And even if he did flop the joint, you've got ours to beat him and after the hand, the chips are even and you've still got a great chance to win (especially since you know him so well.)

I thought about it a lot today and realized that was a stupid mistake on my part, i got gun shy and didnt pull the trigger. Thanks for all the replys, its good to hear that a lot of other people thought it was stupid for me not to call as well as myself!! I ended up winning the tourny dispite my bad fold anyways.

Yup, that's a flop you push on. And if the other guy pushes before you, you call. Probably raise preflop and avoid the mess all together.

The hand warrants the call on it's own merit, but if that's not reason enough...

I was a the chip leader with a 3 to 1 chip lead.
should give you enough reason to do it.

Are you hoping to flop a full boat on this hand? Call! You're probably ahead most of the time against this player.

    Default hey!

hey Allliving i havent heard from you in a while bud, hows it going. Yes you are all correct, i did have the 3-1 chip lead but i didnt want to loose the ground that i had already accomplished, not saying that justifys the fold cause it certainly does not, but to me i could not be 100% sure as to whether or not he flopped a straight when at most if he flopped the nuts it would be a split pot, i wanted to get my money in with him when i had the nuts or a pretty good read so i could bust him, but o well lesson learned and now i can move on. Thanks everyone for the responses!!

Another old post brought back from the dead.

"Rainbow" refers to 3 of all different suits (1 spade 1 club 1 diamond)

This is the type of flop where I sometimes get myself into trouble. Often with tight players if there's a bet and reraise I find that typically at least one of them has a big made hand, like a straight or set. Its a monster flop for KQ, but you have to be weary of it as well, especially with them being high cards (i.e. 65 on a 654 flop is less likely to be a dog).

... But not heads up with a big chip lead. Also the big thing is that he's leading all in, which typically means they have a big draw (they don't mind a call with all the outs but don't exactly want one either), so I bet he had a pair and an open ended straight draw as well (KT, KJ, Q9, J9, etc.), and you had the best one of those, making you a big favorite.
