I don't understand how if the flop is complete spew, what changes things by the river that you think it's suddenly a good idea to call off the rest? Am I missing something?
I also fold flop FWIW
I think it's a reference to the fact that you can sometimes make up for a big mistake at one point in a hand (typically early, when things tend to be more straightforward) with a very astute decision in a marginal situation later on in a hand.
