preflop decision: fold, call or push??

- SB is running 23/15 and has been re-raising a lot from the blinds with hands like KQ and AK, but all of these hands I have seen have been against late position/button raisers
-first hand UTG+1 is playing at the table, no reads

the only stack the odds make sense is if we can take BB's if you really think SB isn't holding a monster, or if there is a lot of action on the flop. If the action on the table has been extremely loose and we think 2 players may end up AI, it might be worth the call. I think you have to go with your read of the implied odds offered by the table's image. It's pretty close.

pushing will get called often, and i think bb or utg+1 has a higher pair.

pushing is not a remotely viable option, and calling seems like a marginally -ev decision. if you are looking to get two other players all-in when you hit a set, most likely one of those players would have a straight or flush draw, which would make the implied odds much worse. obviously, if u have reads that multiple of your opponents will commit their stacks with top pair than calling could be ok, i think folding on a 'normal table' is always a good play. definitely less variance.

I think this is a pretty easy call.

Call intending to play a few more flops than just 8xx

fnord, i may be thinking like a noob on this one, but other than a set, what type of flops are we looking for? having an overpair may lead to losing a lot of money to a likely overpair from either the original bettor or 3-better (with read in OP). Almost any flop without an 8 will hit someone and let them bet us off our hand, especially being IP on at least 3 players, right?

The other thing that could affect our decision is the button to act behind us, if he decides to continue in the hand as well, with only 21 left if he were to call pre, if he plays he is basically committed, and if i were in his position and wanted to play i would likely push pre, forcing the hero (and everyone else) to commit more chips. that may not ultimately be important but since we dont technically close the action pre does that affect the decision?

You're giving people too much credit.

can you elaborate on that fnord?
that nobody has an overpair? or that they will all fold on the flop?
if these players are really not worthy of credit wouldnt the hero not want to play 88 in a 4 way pot?
