fnord, i may be thinking like a noob on this one, but other than a set, what type of flops are we looking for? having an overpair may lead to losing a lot of money to a likely overpair from either the original bettor or 3-better (with read in OP). Almost any flop without an 8 will hit someone and let them bet us off our hand, especially being IP on at least 3 players, right?
The other thing that could affect our decision is the button to act behind us, if he decides to continue in the hand as well, with only 21 left if he were to call pre, if he plays he is basically committed, and if i were in his position and wanted to play i would likely push pre, forcing the hero (and everyone else) to commit more chips. that may not ultimately be important but since we dont technically close the action pre does that affect the decision?
