    Default QQ vs. flush

My last hand of the night. I was 3-tabling to clear the Martins bonus so I didn't have much of a read except he seemed fairly tight-solid. The reason I was betting low was to try to get a feel whether he had a flush or not while keeping the pot manageable. Crying call? Play it different?

    Lemmy12 (EUR 210,37 in seat 1)
    r8ed (EUR 121,60 in seat 5)

    Dealer: Lemmy12
    Small Blind: rajfisken (0,50)
    Big Blind: ARNEPETER (1,00)

r8ed was dealt: Qc - Qs

    Swingen Fold
    r8ed Raise (3,50)
    Argenius1 Fold
    Lemmy12 Call (3,50)
    rajfisken Fold
    ARNEPETER Fold

    Flop 5c - 8c - 3c

    r8ed Bet (4,00)
    Lemmy12 Call (4,00)

    Turn 5c - 8c - 3c - Th

    r8ed Bet (5,25)
    Lemmy12 Call (5,25)

    River 5c - 8c - 3c - Th - 7c

    r8ed Bet (11,00)
    Lemmy12 Raise (50,00)
    r8ed ???????????

I mentioned my reasoning - even though it may not be the smartest way to play it. I also lost several hands in the session where I kept betting (higher than this) and getting called down and losing. So, I was a little concerned about about dropping 3/4+ buyin on my last hand. Poor excuses, but that was running through my mind at the time.

What line do you like here? I'm not overly dissapointed in how I played it.

    as played, fold the river.

i would bet the pot on the flop and usually 2/3-3/4 of the pot on turn. river i bet about 1/2 pot and fold to a raise.

He had a good flush draw (and overs) and you pretty much priced him in to chase it. I'd make a pot-sized bet on the flop so that he doesn't think "woo, two chances to hit my flush draw for cheap!".

I don't totally disagree, but that has me commit 50e+ only to fold to a hand I may have been behind to on the flop. Maybe he folds before then.

In this case I invested 25e and got to a point where I can call the river bet for a little more than scenario 1...and I may have the best hand. Only A or K club beats me. No fold equity is the caveat. I actually anticipated a reraise on the turn, but it never came. Is my logic here bad? I know it's sort of weak.

This is almost like your hands where you check down KK when an Ace flops. You may be beat on the flop so you check down. However, you give all those lower PP's or connectors you are against a chance to hit.

I've been trying to keep the pot sizes a little more manageable lately and it seems to have reduced the big hands I lose and help my profits.

Hmmm... looking back at this hand....

I would check call the river.
    As played, I fold.

I agree with gabe, he's obviously chasing with a good kicker.

OK, looks like everyone agrees I should bet higher all the way and see what he wants to do on the river - which is what I usually do. For some reason I felt like I was ahead on the river - maybe it was the non-reraise on the turn. I can't explain why, but I trusted my gut feeling and called. Dude flipped over A7 SPADES!! I was expecting a set minimum. This goes way against how I initially perceived him. Unless he was just confident in reading me and knew he could push me off the hand when scare cards hit. Who knows.

    GUT FEELING/READS:
I trust my gut feeling more these days - especially at 6max when people make plays that just don't add up. The above may be a poor example. Last week I had a gut feeling that some guy was bluffing me out of a medium-large pot. But when I looked at the board there were str8 and flush possibilites and I was holding a set. I went against my gut and let him take it. He showed his cards to confirm I should have trusted my read. I know this happens often, but when I go with my feeling I'm getting good results. Fnord has mentioned several times to trust reads despite the board. I catch people all the time now that I follow my gut. I'm wrong many times too, but overall I'm profiting more because of it. Anyway, like I said - this may not be the best example but learn to trust yourself. I would post more examples of going with my gut but geting HHs from this site is a chore, especially when 3tabling.
