but seriously, at the time I think it was a good reraise almost regardless of cards because he had a huge raising range and tight range to call a reraise, especially since I had a solid image. pretty much sums my thinking.
This is good stuff too. If I feel a guy is getting out of line, has a large raising range, I have a good image...then my cards really don't matter sometimes. I'm not looking to go to showdown when I reraise, just giving off the indication that I have a big hand and will definitely go all the way with it (when sometimes there's no way I'll want to).
Figuring out what your opponents raising range is, what he calls re-raises with, board texture and whether we should bet the flop even with nothing, etc, etc, is how you make money at this game.
Being in position is a huge factor, too.
Also, opening up your reraising range will hopefully get you paid off later in the match. If I've reraised you two or three times already, yeah maybe I had a hand maybe I didn't....but if I reraise you that third or fourth time I more than likely have a huge hand. By that time you'll be getting tired of me and will pay me off with your not-so-great hand.
And FWIW, I try to make my re-raises 3.5x's whatever they raised. If there is a caller in-between it usually goes to 4.5x's or 5x's whatever the original raise was. Anything less and you're giving your opponent better odds to call......anything more and you'll only blow out hands preflop that aren't kicking your ass already.
