    Default Shortstack CO

CO starts the hand with $13. Wtf do I do, I hate this situation and it comes up so often at absolute because the default buyin is less than 50BB.

    Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is BB with J A
UTG, folds, UTG+1 (poster) checks, CO calls, Button folds, SB calls, Hero raises to $3.5, UTG+1 folds, CO calls, SB folds.

    Flop: 3 Q 2 ($8, 2 players)
Hero bets $4, CO raises all-in $9.59, Hero folds.

If he's a 45+/10+ I raise him all in. If he's tighter or raising less I fold this pre flop. On the flop you need to push as well, he'll do this with any PP, since your 30% to hit the Q.

    Agree.

I think he could get the same result with a bigger bet. Bet 6-8 instead of 4 and your fold equity will be a lot closer to what it would be if your were jamming.

What was the sb's stack size? That would heavily impact your pfr amount should you be considering jamming.

sb probably raises anything beating you preflop. I think you could jam here pre ...

I think you can fold on the flop after your c-bet gets raised.

I would just check in the BB with AJo and get all in if you hit TP.
I would just check/fold the flop in hand 2. Well... now I waffle. c-betting might fold a small pair... he has to fold about 40% of the time for this to be a good bet.

This is very weak and passive, but IMHO you should just wait until you have a pair to stack these guys.

Jamming pre-flop with AJ is OK since they will probably fold, and might even call with nothing. More likely they call with AQ+/pairs which is not a great range for you. +EV, but only a little.

    First hand is standard.

On the second hand you posted I would probably check the flop and give up. It might seem weak, but with your raise I think it's highly likely villain connects here, though we lose some value to smaller PPs. I don't cbet every single time, it's based on board texture. If it was A 5 7 or Q 8 2 I would do it, but with all the near-broadway action and a low chance of improving, I'm not bothering based on villain's likely range here.

I don't like raising with KJo unless I'm on the button, or folded to in the SB.

I'm not folding hand 1 to the flop raise. 5.5o to call, pots over 20. You've got an ok tilt/donk catcher getting 4 to 1.

But is there some cardinal rule I'm missing with shorties? They murder me.

Yes. If they show any strength post-flop - even cbets - they are never folding, so never try to bluff them, and fold if they bet and you're unimproved (and don't have a good draw). No fold equity + no implied odds = no reason to risk chips without odds.

Similarly, you can safely call with hands like TPWK because they'll bet/push with anything that hits.

    KJ hand is standard.

    AA hand raise the flop.

Once in a blue moon you will find a nitty short stack who plays short because he doesn't want to gamble. Most of the time it's the other way around. They play higher than they can afford to buy in for full just because they want to gamble. So gamble with them if you have anything decent. Pay close attention to stack sizes. Either make your pre-flop raise small enough to c-bet/fold or big enough to never fold the flop. Obviously playing stuff like SCs is pointless.

Yes, except he's supposed to call the raise all in.
