    Villian is 17/14 and 3bets 6%. He folds to flop cbets about 50%. He seems pretty solid generally.

    His initial raise gives him {AA-22, AJo-AKo, ATs-AKs, KQ, JQs} then after I raise with position his reraise gives him premiums like {AK, AA-QQ}

    So his range when the flop comes is 34 combos, all of which beat me, but 12 of which are behind if I have an ace.

    When he checks the flop to me, I fire out a cbet for almost the pot figuring he's unlikely to fold to a smaller cbet with KK/QQ.

    When he calls, then checks the turn back to me, I just give up since he doesn't fold to turn cbets a lot (30% or so).

    Where did I go wrong in this hand? I was getting 2.8:1 to call the final preflop bet, but should I have just folded to his 4bet preflop and not tried to outplay him post? Should the flop texture have guided my decision?

    One reason I probably didn't check behind the flop was that although I wasn't especially confident that he'd lay down KK or QQ to a flop cbet, I didn't really have a plan for what I was going to do on the turn if he bet after I checked behind. I probably felt like check/folding was weak.

    Perhaps, starting at the beginning of my fuckup, I should never have 3bet him preflop at all. He's tight, and I don't have a hand that beats most of his range for raising even in the cutoff, but I did have position and a good bit of fold equity since he folds 60% to 3bets pre.

    Another line is that I could have called his 4bet pre then setmined and checked behind the flop for a free card, when it didn't hit, I could have planned to fold to a turn bet.

    hi rpm,

    I moved down yesterday.

    Yes, I butchered it. I 3bet his opening raise because I thought I'd take it down right there a lot of the time, or take it down at the flop.

    My plan if he called was to cbet the flop if he checked it to me and the flop texture was favourable.

    If he 4bet, I didn't really have a plan, other than that I'd obviously fold to a shove or bigger 4bet. Not having a plan here was one reason why this hand went so badly.

    When he did 4bet, I called because he obviously had a hand he was likely to be willing to get it in at the flop with, and he was giving me odds to setmine. I figured that, plus FE at the flop, made the 4bet an OK call, but the issue as you've identified is that I should never have been having to make that decision in the first place.

    Once he checked the flop to me I figured after 3betting him then calling his 4bet pre he put me on {AK/KK/QQ}. If the flop had brought a single ace rather than 2 I think he might have laid down KK to this bet. In fact, even with the 2 aces on board, he did think for a long time then just flatted the cbet, so I'm pretty sure he had KK or QQ.

    None of this excuses a poor cbet in a spot I should never have got into in the first place, I just say it all so you can see my thinking process and hopefully help me see where it's wrong and how I can improve it.
