Amazing how frequently you were making big but second best hands there, michael. I think I watched about ten hands and saw you make three straights and flop the K3 trips and the 26 two pair.

Why ARE you playing those rags?

I'm not a NL player (but I might start to dabble here and there) but I found these hand histories neat and I had a few questions for you micheal or anyone else that could answer these.

1) I notice that you aren't playing according to any set starting hands but are mostly playing suited cards (connected or not), connectors and are raising the same amount every time. Is this standard for you ie: do you ALWAYS raise 4x BB? Do you just play whatever you feel like (I'm specifically referring to the K3o hand)?

2) At what level can you start getting away from starting hands and play a style similar to this? I know this wouldn't fly at a $25 NL table, what about $100? $500?

3) Same deal goes for actual tourney playing. At what level of tourney does this play style/reads come more important than the starting cards? I mean, I don't think you'd be able to play like this in say a $5 buy-in MTT compared to a $100 buy-in or is tourney just that much different than ring?

I'd have to say once you get to $600 NL, you get to start using your opponents cards against them a lot more than using "starting hands" because once you get up there, usually, the other people WILL be paying attention to what they think your hadns are.

Definitely not at $100 NL, I'd have to say, and $200 NL really isn't all that different. $400...iffy, but probably not.

I am pretty sure you can play this style at $100 NL.

Haha, I thought everyone here knew I played crazy loose aggressive NL ring.

H@ isn't fishy at all. He's certainly one of the very best players in that game. He just kind of plays my type of style (although not quite as many hands), and is very aggressive. He didn't think I had a hand on his raises here. The first hand is surprising though, since the guy with jacks would surely call.

Yes strung, I always raise 4xBB in NL ring. Only reason I'd ever do more is if there were a lot of limpers in front of me and I wanted to limit the field some.

I don't really just raise / play any hand I feel like (the K3o hand was in the SB against the BB), its mostly just as you said, suited / connected hands along with usual raising hands. But in general I put very little wait into preflop hands and flop bets, since it costs very little compared to how big my pots are when I reach a showdown. Its all about post flop play for me.

And I don't play near this loose aggressive in tournies. You can't see 50% of flops in a tourney if you expect to have any kind of consistency. The ability / willingness to play suited gapped hands (or the occasional 75o) and such is important late in tournaments though, but I won't raise every one, and position is much more important to me.

I usually see about 20% of the flops in tournaments that I go deep in.

do you have the hand history of when you took down a 10k pot with a set of 2s when the guy called off his 5k stack with bottom pair of 2s because you got him on tilt by bluffing the 4 card flush then showing it? i think it happened maybe a week or 2 ago when i was watching the table... i just found it hilarious that he kept reraising you with bottom pair until his stack of $5000 was gone

The main reason to play more hands instead of hands that will connect better is to take advantage of weak-tight fish who are present. If you just keep playing premium hands, someone else will get their money before you do. I'm thinking more of certain tournaments now, but I'm sure it can apply to higher stakes ring games too. This strategy will not work against the type of player abundant at lower stakes who is in to call down or chase anything.

I would interested to hear the reasoning from someone else's point of view as well.

With tournaments, it's hard to label $5 MTT as X and $109 as Y, because the composition of the table can change as the tournament progresses. People can change styles when faced with cashing, or when blinds represent a greater % of stack, also certain types that were prevalent at the beginning may have mostly busted by the end which is why you should play more types of hands at the beginning if the dead money in your tournament consists of weak-tight players. Also, to get more of your money involved while the play is profitable, consider throwing in small raises, and calling more raises.

Yey, it's Bertrand and Rekrul. Many top bw-gamers jumped on poker early, like our swedish Willet and many others.

Has anyone ever tracked the wins/losses of hollingol?
I play at poker stars , so when I noticed his chipstacks, I got curious and tracked him.

His losses for the last 2 days were just over $5000, from the 459 hands I tracked. And no, not from just 2 or 3 hands. It was a gradual loss over the 2 days. I only tracked maybe 10-20% of his total hands played, so he could have made a profit when I wasnt there. He obviously makes money (or owns an oil refinery), but his 'superhuman' reputation is a little grandiose.

Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt he is one of the craftiest players around, but he would have more than one equal. In fairness too, I admit that I probably caught him on a bad run. I'm just showing you that no-one is impervious to defeat. He does look scary to play against though.

h@ll was on a mad downswing late last year. He was even speaking of quitting.
