To slow play or not to slow play...is it even a question?

Default To slow play or not to slow play...is it even a question?

This guy is real loose pre flop and donkish, but not terrible (he mixes up his play and occasionally makes good laydowns), post flop. I have a lot of history with him and think he sees me as slag, willing to make moves in small/medium pots, but having the goods if it gets to an allin.

He tends to play his monster hands really fast on the flop and turn, and I've seen him do this min check/raise on the turn with top and even mid pair, I think to "see where he's at" since he shut down afterward.

Recently he played for stacks with for 100bb with Q4 on a Q 3 3 x board where I had AA, but he seems to be tightening up since then.

I think I should've just raised his limp, but got (unnecessarily) worried since I'd been raising a lot recently and thought he's likely to try to play back if I cbet

ANYWAY, my question is what you would do on the turn - smooth call or reraise and how much. I get confused about blowing someone off the pot vs slow playing and possibly letting them suck out (seems unlikely he has a set though, likely 1pr or 2pr or str8) or possibly getting more value if he would think strong is weak.

godshammgod is at seat 0 with $416.05.
    ALF_70 is at seat 1 with $135.35.
yourpd is at seat 2 with $60.80.
tootie is at seat 3 with $176.85.
villain is at seat 4 with $290.50.
Hero is at seat 5 with $411.25.
The button is at seat 3.

villain posts the small blind of $1.
Hero posts the big blind of $2.

    villain: -- --
    Hero: :Jh:

    Pre-flop:

godshammgod folds. ALF_70 folds. yourpd folds.
tootie folds. villain calls. Hero checks.

    Flop (board: 7h Td 9c):

villain bets $4. Hero raises to $14.
    villain calls.

    Turn (board: :Td: :Qs: (pot=$32)

villain checks. Hero bets $25. villain
raises to $65. Hero??? (he has about $210 left)

"Letting him suck out" is irrelevent. You're getting all of the money in here if you can.

If you think he's following through on the river, I like a call. If you think he is capable of slowing down, but incapable of folding I like a re-raies to about $120 mixed with an occasional shove.

Being OOP sucks here, so I like a bet to about $120'ish like Fnord said. He obviously likes his hand too, build the pot now. If he folds he probably wouldn't have bet on the river anyway because that's a pretty scary ass board for one-pair, two-pair, or even set-type hands.

I was kinda mad last night about how I ended up playing, because I dwealt on some stuff a little too much (trying to figure out his likely hands and what his intent was with the turn, what stacks and the pot were, etc all while not knowing how much time I have thanks to UB not showing any timer).

I ended up raising to an amount that left him like 80, hoping he would think I was semibluffing or something and just put the rest in. Instead he folded and showed Q9 - top two pair - doh!

Result aside, I like how you guys put it - thinking about how much he likes his hand and how likely he is to follow through...not concerning myself about getting sucked out (even though it's been common lately, with the quality reads I had, I should've realized he was not likely to have a set and be more cautious than usual with one or maybe 2 pr after the recent stacking). I just wish I could've realized that fast enough to not freak out about getting timed out.

Anyway, thanks - another lesson learned, next time I'll have my thoughts more in order and be quicker about all this.

    duh, I'm stupid.

in that case, call, and value bet the living shit out of this.

P.S. My only excuse is that it was *really* freaking early when I posted that, right before I headed out the door to my first day back with kids.
