    Default Tried 6max today...need feedback

Well, I tried 6max NL today at the $25 tables for the hell of it. I knew I could play some good poker since it was money I didnt care about. I hit some good cards and within 30 minutes I am sittin with a $90 stack. After about an hour ive got a $125 stack. Not bad! I played quite aggressively and it worked out. Anytime I raised I bet the pot and got folds all around. Is this usual or just good opponents?

I think I just got really good cards, but it was nice coming in against 3 big stacks and taking them down to almost nothing. I showed a few made hands and from there on any time I felt like winning a pot I simply put in a bet or two. Once I had the huge stack, if I bet it was always the exact amount in the pot no matter what. These potsized bets could get pretty big, and I think I won a few nice pots just out of brute force.

Heres a couple hands so tell me if this is how its done or if I was too raise happy. These might look like obvious hands to some of you guys, but for me shorthanded NL play is a foreign concept and I wouldnt usually push so hard in a full ring with these hands.

I did lose about $25 bucks when my A high flush ran into a fullhouse (made off a 72o hand!)..is that something that is very easily avoidable?

    Nice playing smackin.

The QQ one: I'd say you did the right thing based on his limp. However limping and then subsequent re-raise might indicate that he doesn't trust a single bet you put out and is therefore willing to risk limping with AA or KK in order to extract $ from you. So your push makes me a little nervous here. What was your read on him?

The AA one: Not bad. I wonder what he had. Seems kind of weak to be calling your bets with no raise, and you picked up on it. Nice.

The JJ one: Wow. That was incredible. Big risk vs reward calculations going on with the turn. I'm not qualified to comment on this because so much of it gives me the feeling that "you'd have to be there" in order to understand. I like the results though.

You've gotta be a little nervous about the limp raise but your action was good.

    He probably had second pair.

It's a good and standard play with JJ. Unless the flop comes A high, you can play it like top pair in 6max.

    I liked it.

    All of it.

I'm kinda new to this site, but the 6 max tables (25NL) have been pretty good to me as well for the past week or so. I can usually get up to a 90 stack in an hour or less pretty consistently, as long as you find the right table with lots of action.

Alright guys! Thanks for the replies. It was funny reading the 6max guide on the go and trying to play according to it at the same time. Gonna have to give it another go again sometime soon.

    Default mmm

I like ur plays alot too, shorthanded are so much more actionpacket than full 10 person tables.

    im in love with it.

and from the way u play u must be too =D

Why thanks. Some of these plays hurt me in full ring, but in 6max my style found a little niche. I still have some work to do, though. Looks promising.

Lookin forward to more of the same.

Rilla, you should post a couple hand histories from your 6max play, it seems like theres a lot that could be learned.

Looks like you played well, but from my limited experience its all about how you play marginal hands. Its always great to take down a pretty big pot with middle pair crappy kicker because the fish think they need to call down to the river with ace high because its 6max.

You are very right BMX. 6max tests the hell outta your postflop play. Ive been up and down since that post. Usually start out losin money ,then I end up 2 or 3 buyins worth. Tonight was just down, good thing I stuck myself on autopilot at the full ring games during all that.

I believe I am getting the hang of 6max. starting to develop some much needed post flop skill. This game was weaktight and predictable so I was taking about every other pot. I was raising all the time preflop, betting the flop no matter what, and finally my image paid off with this guy getting sick of me.

Nice. How did things go after this hand? Did they continue to fear you?

    Great screen name, btw.

Why thanks. After this hand they stayed out of my way. It was kinda cool but I didnt really take much advantage of it. Most of the time they all just checked to me to se what I would do and if I ever bet I would pick up the blinds...a few times I folded out of the way of some aggression to avoid any big errors. Then wittled away at their stacks a little bit, but it got old after an hour.

I really like the aggression. You're really pressing those people hard and putting them to the test.

After a while people are going to really get tired of being pushed around and they're going to start trying to play back at you...that's when you can really take them for some big bucks. They begin to overvalue hands like k10, any ace, etc and they'll start playing weaker than they were in the first place.

Yea its so fun pushing around a weak table. I have a thing where it takes me a while to settle into my aggressive style...I dont know why I cant just start off with it right off the bat. Im thinkin that maybe im thinking (yes i meant to say that) maybe people wont respect my raises until I show down a few winners...

Anyone ever join a game that has someone else who is already the aggressor? It can be quite difficult to play against them. I tried a couple times and pushed back at just the wrong time - as always happens. I just join other games instead of trying to take advantage of that person.
