First hand - good call, it's a pretty obvious busted flush draw and there's no reason to think you're behind. I like smooth calling there. A raise gains you nothing if it's a bluff, and costs you everything if it turns out he rivered something wonderful.
Second hand - ???????? All-fucking-in. You flopped top two pair on a rainbow board... I'm guessing that guy had an ace. Maybe. You're only really worried about a set there, but the standard player who calls raises with pocket pairs and check-raises his sets isn't going to throw out such a monumental raise that it makes the original bettor not want to call.
I think it's good that you're working more restraint into your game, but this was not the time for restraint. If he flopped a lucky set or something, good for him. I seriously doubt he had it though.
