    Default VP$IP for 6max

Hello Everybody, This is my first FTR post! This site is truly great.

When I first started playing 6max I lost money, not much per session, but on average, a little every day for several weeks. I played very loose (I'd heard that you were suppose to loosen up playing SH). After loosing half my bankroll I told myself, "Enough!". I reviewed my game with pokertracker and saw the awful truth. I played like all the other fish out there, convincing myself that I would score big if I raised with thrash and hit good (and of course, occasionally I also hit big, but pokertracker shows
    -EV though).

After realizing all this I tightened up and been playing with 23% VP$IP for about 4k hands now. This has been much more profitable on the NL25 games. I know that 4k hands is nothing but the VP$IP figure says at least something about how tight I play.

    My Question:
Is 23% VP$IP too tight for 6max? Would I make more money loosening up?
I understand of course that once you become a better player you can start playing more borderline hands with confidence and make money with them, but I don't think i'm there yet (And pokertracker concurs, "don't play KJo").

What are your VP$IP stats for 6max?

Thanks again for the great forums.

    Hey, welcome to the forums.

I'll get you a more detailed answer later on but for now here it is:

At 25NL, if your 23% vpip is making you money, then keep doing what you're doing. Those people play so loose and they don't notice that you're only playing premium hands.

If you dont, then play all small pocket pairs for set value meaning call any raise up to 10% of the smallest stack between you and the raiser. (If you both have $25, then the biggest raise you could call would be 2.5) Those will hit sets 1 out of 8 times and you can destack people real quick if they have AA vs your 222 for example.

If you're beating the game now, however, I wouldn't worry too much about playing hands you're not comfortable with. You have all the time in the world to learn and hone those instincts required for playing iffy hands.

Edit - I only have 3600 hands logged from 25NL 6max but my vpip was only 26% so we're pretty close.

Ive been playin exclusively 6 max for over a year. not quite sure what my stats are since i dont use poker tracker. but i do know that when im playing my best game im seeing 35% of the flops. accounting for an occasional BB where i didnt voluntarily put money in i would say mine is around 31%

    I'm at 38% VP$IP for $25 NL 6 Max.

But I'm a LAg. I say stick to what you are doing, since it is winning for you.
