    Default Welcome: Me

Greetings forum regulars and irregulars I suppose.
I'm a long time sng player, grinding up from the micros to a roll just shy of 10k. Now I'm dropping sngs for the most part and going for ring, primarily because it fits my lifestyle better (can't dedicate a fixed amount of time that a tourney requires due to my brand new kid and his crazy sleeping schedule). I had a couple of half assed attempts at 6 max in the past. This time I'm going for it in whatever spare time I have. Started a new PT database for it, thats how effing serious I am about it.

My main question is that of bankroll. I'm fairly competent but don't want to start at the kind of level I am rolled for due to inexperience. I'd rather grind up to build the confidence and earn the level I play at. That said, I don't want it to be a thing where I'm reaching for the suicide pills 50k hands into $2NL. So what level to start at? I'm one tabling because I want to focus and learn. I don't care about quickly raking in a ton of cash, at least not right now.

I'll probably be posting hands from today's sessions later. ty for your help

Really will depend on your postflop understanding of Cash games. Personally, I would start at $50NL. Just get the feel. 10K hands at least. Beat it for 5PTBB or 10BB/100. Post stats, get approval, Move up. $100NL for 20K and beat it for the same. Then we can talk.

$50NL is where you will start to run into better preflop/flop players. You will find 4/6 know how to fold pre. Most are capable of flop play, but anyone who can play the turn and river move up fast enough that they won't be a bother. These are the streets that a S&G/tourny player needs to learn. Your playing 100BB poker now. Forget TPTK all ins. Learn bet sizes and pot control.

when i switched to cash I started at 50nl although i had already played up to 10nl before i switched to SnGs in the first place.

I don't think there's anything wrong with playing a bit of 25 nl until you feel comfortable but 50nl is probably the level you should be around.

    Thanks guys. Here's my plan.
    5k hands of $25NL
If I am up > 10 BB/100 I will move to 50NL and follow the plan as mentioned by jyms.

btw I have a thread for some of those hands.

    Waiting in the shadows ...
flop bets that are 1/2 to 3/4 PSB in SnG are 3/4 to full PSB in cash.

    Welcome,
More hands are needed at 25NL or just move directly to 50NL. 5K hands won't tell you dick about your winrate. You need like 50K hands to be within a couple BB/100 of your real winrate, IMO.
10BB/100 over 5K is a good run, but you could run -3bb/100 for your first 10K hands just as easily and that doesn't mean you're bad. Variance in cash games is that long of a process.
Good luck and I suggest just starting at 50NL directly. Maybe some hands of 25NL just to get a feel, but don't set a winrate goal or number of hands. Just move up when you are comfortable. 10K is plenty to start at up to 100NL if you are a quick adjuster/learner.

My best advice is to devalue TPTK and play a cash game like early stages of a tournament. AK is not nearly as valuable preflop. Position is so important whereas in SNGs position is not as important as cards since you're committed or all in by the turn a lot anyway.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

Yea, I thought 5k was mostly to get a feel but you're right the winrate goal is probably just a distraction. Right now I'm 1k in and 50 BB/100 so I suspect it won't stay that high forever.

Let me readjust my plan. I'm going to do 5k at $25NL just to get a feel and disregard winrate, then move to $50NL and go from there.

I've been saving HH's that were "questionable" in my mind right after I played them. Thus far the feedback I've gotten has been super valuable in that it has reinforced my confidence on the hands that I thought I played right while also confirming my suspicion on the ones I thought I played wrong.
