However, if he's just read somewhere that if you have a good hand you should bet it hard and not slowplay, this is a std fold..
I never understood the reasoning in 1.). So what if he has the strongest hand he figures to have here? It doesn't follow from this that his opponent is bluffing often enough to call down just because he's "thinking." Yes, a perfect opponent could bluff here with impunity if he knew you were never calling after this action, but it doesn't makes sense to assume your opponent has this knowledge and is also using it optimally.
