My opponent in this hand is someone who's game I respect, and who regularly plays quite a bit higher than me. So what's going on in this hand?

Maybe he thinks you have air and is letting you bet into him? Not sure though...

Who knows players are constantly changing the way they play.

I just didn't really understand why he didn't bet the flop.

To get you to fire on the turn so he can raise? But board gets too coordinated so he decides to call down...
