Default You did that, eh? Well, good sir, I have {XY} so I'm all in.

Villain is a reg, runs 21/18 with a 3bet% of 7.5 preflop, I have no notes and can't remember any history. The button runs 50/18, obv a donkey. I've been opening and isolating alot, haven't been 3-betting a ton but a little, this is my first squeeze.

    I'm thinking a shoving range of like 88+, AT+?

    UTG ($408.30)
    UTG 1 ($106.00)
    CO ($473.80)
    BTN ($383.30)
    SB ($402.00)
    Hero ($504.10)

    Pre-flop: ($6, 6 players) Hero is BB
3 folds, BTN raises to $14, SB calls $12, Hero raises to $58, BTN folds, SB raises to $222, $164 to Hero ($446.1)?

Why wouldn't he try to get a bunch of money in preflop against the fish instead of allowing me to come along while he's OOP? Yeah he could be trying to induce a squeeze, but the fish has position and is calling 3-bets alot so I'm not gonna squeeze light here.

(plus this is partypoker, regs almost slowplay anything preflop, and with good reason; a 3-bet by SB could very well induce a cold 4-bet bluff on party these days).

edit: 4-bet size makes me think he's not very good, not sure if this makes him more or less likely to have a monster but probably more.

I dunno just the impression I get these days is that this is the new move in the midstakes with big pairs. Reraising is dead, long live the back raise!!

As to the actual hand it's very difficult to tell you what to do.

    getting my swell on
its a pretty risky move not 3 betting a donkey like that with a big pair on the hopes that we squeeze, and even on the chance that we do squeeze, its unlikely well felt. i would say a good shoving range is TT+ and AJ+. it is super unlikely he is flatting any of these hands.

did he insta shove or did he think about it a little?

I definitely do 88+... idk if i go lower than AQ with unpaired hands though.

You say he has a 3bet percentage. How do you know? I thought it didn't show up in PT/PAHud; I thought you just had to assume it. I'd love to know how you know that. Maybe I have the wrong version(s)?

I don't know about this guy, but I have been known to flat call a button raise from an obvious donk when I have AA, with the expectation of getting him to put in at least one big bet on the flop, maybe another on the turn too (depending on the board texture) before I send out any signals of strength. It's quite possible that this is a deception play that happened to blow up in your face instead of its intended target's.

    not joking
