Default watching 50/100 nl ring on UB.... interesting hand

today i was watching the 50/100 nl game on UB and saw an interesting hand. it was a short handed game with fizzlesticks, HASSON SLACK (HALLINGGOL from stars), and mahatma (prahlad friedman). this particular hand involved mahatma and hasson. i dont have the hand history but i'll explain what happened.

fizzle folded from the button and hasson raised to $300 from the small blind. mahatma reraised to $800 or $900, i don't remember exactly. Hasson thinks and calls. flop comes down 27K, 2 to the heart flush. hasson checks and mahatma pushes all-in for about $18000 into a pot of $2000. Hasson has about the same stack so its $18000 for him to call. he thinks and folds.

I'm thinking to myself, wow, what a stupid over bet, i'm sure he has a monster but why not bet for value. then i really start thinking about the hand and started to love his play here. He reraised preflop and probably had a great starting hand. and mahatma isn't going to push all-in for 9x the size of the pot without the nuts. the nuts on this flop is KK and he flopped top set. hasson raised, thought, and called, a likely play by someone with a middle pair (77,88,99,1010), although he may have had any number of other hands as well, but this is most likely. mahatma must have figured the only possible action that he will get on this hand is in the unlikely event that hasson also flopped a set. value betting the flop is pointless because the only hand he thinks he will get action from here is a set, probably more likely 7s than 2s. so an all-in overbet might in fact be a value bet here because he will double up if hasson calls with 7s. it would also be very hard to put someone on KK here and would be extremely hard to lay down the set of 7s if in fact this is the hand that hasson had. i think he makes this play knowing that most of the time the other guy will fold but when he runs into set over set he will be more than paid off for it.

i'd like to hear other thoughts about this hand and my analysis of the hand

    himself fucker.
Well, he's not expecting action only from a set. It's 3 handed and he's playing against a super lag who might feel like dancing with 88. I'm sure he had great reasons to make that push, I just don't know them.

some of those guys are in a league of their own. Speakin of UB, i saw 2 guys play 300-600 for over 10 hours heads up, and one guy was down at least 130k when i checked, nuts.

H@LLINGGOL also plays 50/100NL? hmm.. thats a lot higher then the 10/20 on stars..

I used to watch the 100/200 on royal vegas poker, until some other prima site bought the rites to those tables. You'd small amounts move around and then everynow and then, there'd be a $40,000 pot set over set. Must be fun being the bigger set.

I doubt he had KK. I dont think there stupid enough to do that with nuts on this level, Its much more likley he had a hand like AK or perhaps he had 77. If he had KK and thought the other guy had 77, he probably is gonna get a lot of his money in the pot eventually anyways. If he thinks the other guy has mid pockets, then he should check his set, and either wait for them to bluff, or catch their set.

As for the flush, hes probably not to worried because his set could pair and make a full house about 35% of the time, and he probably wont put the other guy on 2 hearts just because there is 3 hearts on the board. He could have had AA and hoped the other guy had AK, or another strong king.

    Just my thoughts anyways

Yeah, pushing there with KK MUCH dumber than with AK.

i understand that it really doesn't seem like a smart play pushing KK here but i've watching them play now and them and they are great players and i just couldn't see either one of them pushing all-in for 18k or calling for 18k here without a set. I'd understand maybe if someone bet flop, someone reraised, then someone pushed. only other think i can think of is AK with a flopped flush draw but even then i don't know why he would have pushed. the 2 and the 7 would have to be the cards that were hearts but i don't remember which of the cards were the hearts.

mahatma is famous for his massive overbets...he could have KK to absolutely nothing to make this play.

It should've been obvious that I was being sarcastic.

no, sorry. pushing with AK and KK are not the same, but the reasoning for both is. because of this, its hard to 'get a read' on your point.

Thank you Captain Obvious. Nobody ever said pushing with AK and KK are the same. I was actually saying the exact opposite. If you couldn't tell that my original statement was sarcastic, you should look into cyanide.

Again. High Stakes forum is just a few months (maybe even a year) too early.
