i personally would have tried to milk it. raise enough so he doesnt have proper odds, you want him to make a mistake and call with bad odds, not fold. if he hits then you still have a redraw. the only thing you could really worry about is the flush draw because i doubt J9 would be opening. and i wouldnt even worry about the flush draw when its heads up, there is only about a 1 in 8 chance that he will have the diamond draw, and then a 1 in 3 chance he will hit it, so i think you have pretty good odds for milking it. sure you will get sucked out on sometimes but milking it will definitely produce more profit than just pushing everytime theres a suited gapper on the board and you have the nuts. you said the board had a crap-load of draws but there were really only 2. make sure you give your opponent a range of hands based on his preflop play so you can eliminate some of the draws. his $9 bet simply looks like a continuation bet to me since he was the preflop raiser, not necessarily a drawing bet.
but it was the safe play, and you took down the pot.
