Default Should I handle boats more aggressively?

I know this is a bad example, but it made me wondering. I Knew he had the ace and was hoping not with J kicker for the highest boat. I also know that he had the best hand when we put our money in to the middle, so don't whine about it.

The question is, should i normally play more aggressively big hands which aren't THAT big?

    What else can you do?
Playing big pots at small stakes.

You got somebody else to go all in on you. What more can you ask? Sucks if you run into a bigger boat, but that happens every now and then.

Why oh why did you just call on the turn?? With that board you want to get the money in as soon as possible.

arkana, as said i knew he was on A and knew he'd call anything on the river, so i was going to push it there.

Why not push harder when your trips hit on the flop? If you're reasonably sure he's on an ace, you certainly don't want him drawing any more. I would have made a pot-size bet on the flop to discourage the reraise or any drawing hands. Other than that, there isn't much else you could do...

If you're reasonably certain he's on an ace (AK or AQ hopefully) you DO want him drawing more, just not cheaply. The initial flop bet is ok, he min raises you, smooth call is ok because you have position so you can extract chips on the turn. Thats where i feel you made your mistake, i make it 30$ on the turn if you put him on an ace, he's definitely not folding it now that he has 3 of them. Your hand is almost always good here and opp will call just about anything. When he makes his boat thats just a bad beat, but the majority of the time you will have a big pay day here if you are more aggressive on the turn and then can manage to push the river. You won't run into a bigger boat the majority of the time, you will run into AAA decent kicker.

Your opp looks like a solid player. He's making a move here but got a nice piece of the flop. He makes a check-minraise, for information and a probe bet on the turn. He's worried about you holding stronger trips (AK or AQ).

Reraise the flop.. of the hands I can put him on (AK, AQ, KK, QQ and TT) all but TT have draws to the nut straight. By checking behind him you are still giving him infinite odds to draw. On the flop you must reraise to $20. That would force him to call an additional $10 into a $30 pot, forcing him to make a mistake in calling for the draw. In this particular hand you would have won it right there.

The A on the turn is actually a bad card for you because it opens the possibility of a bigger boat. Although, it eliminates the straight. You then need to start asking yourself, would he raise 5x PF with AJ or AT? What series of bets can I make to get ifnromation that he has these hands. Certainly calling will not get you any information. Here I will raise him to $20. I don't want to scare off AAA or the nut straight. If he comes over the top of my raise I'll have to ask myself: would the nut straight or AAA make that play? Other than these, the only hands I can beat from this player is TTTAA. In general, because AX starting hands are so common, any time the the board shows AA you have to worry about the bigger boat.

I would certainly smooth call the river bet.

The hand will likely destack you in any case and is a bad beat but that is besides the point.
