    Default Pushing with AA

    Bodog Poker
    I'm CO playing 0.25/0.5 ($50 NL)

I get dealt AA, look at my stack and am slightly disappointed to see only $34 there. 3 limpers so I decide I have to make a 8BB raise to $4. BB calls, the limpers fold.

Turn comes K, J, 9 rainbow. BB checks. I push

    Is that correct?

(Result: he called with KJo. Collected another J on the turn for a full boat. I'm not whinging... I'm making a killing at Bodog right now; but I'm wondering if it's a push)

A pot sized raise would give you the same information as would an all-in, so no, that would not be correct.

If I'm correct you pushallin with $30 into a pot of about $10. The only hand that will call you here most of the time is a hand that beats you, so your bet doesnt achieve anyting. Why not valuebet instead - I would bet about ½ to the whole pot. If I get reraised I have a chance to get out of the pot if I think I'm beat. Your overbet screams "I have an overpair that I want to protect".

On a sidenote, if you want to push someone of a hand a potsized bet will achieve the same as an overbet allin most of the time.

what kind of hand would you push with in this situation?

If I bet $10, what's the play if he

    A) pushes
    B) calls?

Why push? You want to TP to pay you here and not run away. Since this is a drawish board I would bet 2/3 the pot and see what he does. You should be able to figure out (by the river) the strength of his hand by seeing what he does on the turn (especially when the second J falls). If he raises your turn bet, its time to lay 'em down. Otherwise look for a cheap showdown on the river.

    A) If he pushes after you bet the pot I would probably lay this down. I dont see any hand besides a complete bluff and TP that I beat, and ppl almost never push these hands into a bet representing strenght (your pot bet).

    B) If he calls, its up to your read on the player. I would certainly bet if I knew opp was loose, cuz then he probably would be on a draw. Without a read I would probably also bet (½ to 2/3 of the pot) on the turn, but would consider folding to a reraise, cuz ppl calling the flop and reraising the turn are often ppl slowplaying.
