Default when no one wants to play u

within the last month that i started playing live poker i have already built a reputation as a dangerous play to play against. i don't have much a bankroll yet so i am not ready to move up to the higher stakes games. the people i play against think they are really good of course and i know for a fact that i am much better then them so it makes it hard for me to guage how good i actually am. is it just that i can't find any good competition?

You're playing home games I assume? Or a really small Brick and Mortar? You could be owning the people around you because your style is good against them. Or it could be that you know how to play against them and therefore you win a lot. If you want to guage your skills start playing elsewhere.

Try online if you can't find a casino around you.

I wouldn't worry about it, if your winning then just keep doing it.

Just having some fun with you Ghost. Welcome to the forum. You need to believe there are plenty of poker players out there who could eat you for breakfast. It's a healthy thought to keep you learning. What do I know? You could be the next Phil Ivey, but stay modest in case you're not.

    nice post rondavu.. lol

You have to understand that the competition gets much harder than at a low level home game.. a month doesnt count as having much expierience

and I am a little confused though ghost.. are you complaining about bad players?

I dont know from your post if you play online or not, ie. having any more expierience than just this months live games... So, sorry if i am being patronising at all..
Read the "newbie circle of death" in the beginners circle, for an in depth discription of what most people go though when starting at poker. Also, if you havent learnt about pot odds.. learn them.

I've been pretty much only playing in 2 table tournaments at the local bars. I believe I have yet to find the right game that suits my style. I am a tournament player but when the blinds double every 15-10 mins it turns into a crapshoot. There is a casino a couple hours away that has limit holdem but I have yet to feal comfortable playing limit for money. I finally made my first real money deposit online and haven't been able win any money playing 5-10 cent limit. My strengths are my great poker face, my ability to read opponents, and my patience, and my inability to go on tilt. This is all suited for live action I believe but I don't know where the best place to do this is.

i know all about pot odds...i plan on learning more then just that(i just picked up sklasnky's theory of poker)...i don't play homegames...just bar tournaments(3-4 different places a week)..i've only played online for free until the other day...all the people i beat in live games talk about all the money they make online...but i just don't think that kind of play suits me.

i didn't put that quite right..i have been on tilt before...i folded a full house after the turn card...i had a 10..the flop was TTA...i don't remember how the round was bet but i knew i was under the suspician that this chick had an ace...i of course knew i had the best hand...i kept everyone in til the turn...an Ace came up and i made a full house..that same chick bet out big...and i thought about it and folded(!!!!!!!!!!!!!)..i was scared of a better full house and wanted to keep myself in the game...after seeing that she had the two pair on the board w/ K high i was on tilt for the next few hands...i still battled back to finish 2nd though...

i used to think i couldnt tilt too.. and then i lost a hand, a few hours later i was down $200. I now realise i can tilt.. also, if you tilted from that folded winner then you have some more learning to do..

good job on taking an interest and wanting to learn.. you be in the right place..

Playing online makes you see a lot of situations over a short period of time. You learn a lot about betting patterns. You learn a lot about pushing people off hands because you have more room to make moves, unlike bar games where one mistake cripples you. Don't make the mistake of not playing online because you keep losing. If that's the case, then you need to admit that you have much to learn. Becoming a good online player makes you a better live player, especially if you have a knack for not giving away tells in a live setting.

It may seem like you have everything covered, but there's more to poker than just that.

It's possible that you're a darn good live player, but if you're not playing enough you're not going anywhere. You could read every book in the world about poker, but if you're not playing it enough then...

If you don't have a good poker room near you, then you have to play online if you want to get a lot better.
