    Default Weird River Raise?

    Party Poker Pot-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Top pair up is about the weakest hand I would call that raise with (without a read.) I would expect to lose this a lot, but win enough to show a profit.

Thanks Fnord. That's what I thought too. When he raised, I looked at the board and thought, with what? Villain turns up 99 for the rivered set (not surprising)

    Another, unrelated hand:

    Party Poker Pot-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

    BB ($29.75)
    UTG ($9.10)
    UTG+1 ($12.50)
    MP1 ($24.75)
    MP2 ($60.10)
    MP3 ($14.25)
    CO ($15.39)
    Hero ($22.40)
    SB ($14.95)

Preflop: Hero is Button with Q, K. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
    3 folds, MP2 calls $0.25, MP3 calls $0.25, CO calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, 1 fold, BB checks.

    Flop: ($1.35) J, A, T (5 players)
BB checks, MP2 checks, MP3 bets $1.3, CO folds, Hero calls $1.30, BB folds, MP2 calls $1.30.

    Turn: ($5.25) T (3 players)
    MP2 checks, MP3 bets $4, Hero calls $4, MP2 folds.

    River: ($13.25) Q (2 players)
    MP3 checks, Hero checks.

    Final Pot: $13.25

Is check/calling here too weak? My plan was to value call the flop then push the turn, but the turn brought doom. Should I have pushed the flop, or at least raised it? There were probably too many outs against me for a smooth call here

instacall, even though he might have a set.

    edit: for the first hand

raise the flop, raise the turn, check behind the river

Second hand: I want to get it in on the flop. That's an action board. On the river I bet another $4 on the river for value and am quite capable of laying down to a check/raise.

On the second hand, I probably would have raised that flop, if only to shake out any flush draws. There are 15 cards (3 jacks, 3 aces, 3 tens, 8 spades) on the turn that can make your life miserable. I don't like to slow play with 15 cards that can kill my hand, even if it is only in theory (if a spade dropped on the turn and someone bet hard, what would you have done?). If you stomp the pot with a nice raise, you can be fairly sure anyone left has at least a pair, and therefore no flush draw. At that point, you can just worry about the board pairing, and slow down if it does.
