Default I gave a shot to Aok's counterplay strat and...

I tried to perform that supertight passive counter strategy written by Aokrongly. Here is some situation I want to know about if "is it a pure counter play?". I decided to give it a shot in order to learn my patience and forge some discipline, here we go:

Is it a pure counter play?

    Sportingbet $0.05-0.10

    1. AQs UTG+1, I limp so do 4 other players. If someone raised up to 5xBB I'd call, but no raise was made. I flop TPTK on QTx board, check called 1XBB flop, then the same on turn (J). JTQxx rainbow on river, I called 1xBB, showed my pair of queens and took the pot woth of about 10BB. Pure counterplay was good here?

    2. AA, MP, 1 limper, I raise 5xBB (not a CtPlay I know, it was my contitional reflex), 3 callers, flop Q24 2 spades, turn 5, river K, no flush, rags make wheel possibility, I check-call 1/3 potsize bets from 1 opponent and beat his QJ. Pot was around 40BB here. Counterplayed g00t? (except that PF raise, it should be limped in CtPlay strat, then check-called small bets if overpair or raise huge on turn or river if aces tripped or better? )

    3. KQo on LP, lot of limper I limp too in the hope to hit straight draw. Flop K22 2 diamonds, I check-call small bets (1/4 pot and less), third deuce on turn, checkcall and third diamond on river. The opp (big blind) bets pot (around 25BB + 25BB bet), Should I have pushed here AI? I thought, my hand was strong but not pure nuts, I called here. He showes me his 2 diamond rags and types "you fucking fish".
Deuces full vs (flush OR quads OR better fullhouse). Minraise or raise big or AI or just call? I felt really fishy after just calling...Probably counterplay mistake (should I have raised by little one-card boat?)

    About tight play:

I muck everything that is not a TT+ pair, or AK, AK and AQ in EP, and lay down my TPTK, TPGK, underpair on clear demonstration of strength on turn/river.

High s00ted connectors in LP and lot of limpers are only usable to straight/flush hand, I lay top pair hand if I'm not drawing to the nuthand.

Not a lot playable situations in that style of play, What do you think about those 3 hand (according to counterplay strat)?

Uh...well...you played pretty passively, and that may have limited your profits a little bit.

The counterplay was designed for use against extremely aggressive opponents, which are not always found at the microlimits. Playing ABC poker probably would have netted you much mroe overall, justbecause of the calling stations and such.

Remember: counterplay is supposed to be a version of enlightened calling station mentality. Don't do it against other calling stations or people that aren't routinely aggressive.

Next time, in all those positions, you should take control and bet.

But maybe that's just because I'm more of an aggressive player and counterplay doesn't really suit me unless there are other very aggressive people at the table.

I limp on the button with QQ, 5 limpers, big blind raises 3x, 2 callers, I call too. Axx 2 clubs. 5xBB bet by big blind player, UTG calls, me too. I trip my queens on turn (still flush draw on board), check by BB, UTG 5xBB bet, I go AI, BB folds and UTG calls. I see his rockets and lose my stack.

    Bad judgement of opponent?

I wouldn't limp QQ on the button. Unless you can put them both on flush draws, I would lay down the flop bet, as QQ with an A showing isn't that great. Turn looks good.

Yes, yes, yes. All excellent plays. On the last one, if you figured you had the best hand - which was fairly obvious from the bets into you, then you go ahead and push or bet so much it will bleed when he pees. That's the "please don't call my obvious bluff move". And the call you'll get 1 out of 3-4 times Makes UP for chips you could have won on other hands but left out of the pot by playing passively.

You also noticed, I'm sure that alot of times those crazy hands that beat your quality cards hit. And counterplay kept you from making those bets and raises that would have drained your stack, I'm sure.

Excellent counter-play, and it's perfect for SB .05/.10. Counterplay was written for SB under $1/2 level.

And actually counterplay IS made for other calling stations more than agressive players (although it works for both). Counterplay isn't trapping - although it will trap people. It's a strategic way of playing that limits your losses, acts as a tilt buffer, and keeps your opponents totally in the dark all at the same time. At the .05/.10 SB tables it has NO downsides. And I mean that literally. They will call those ai pushes when you have the nuts, and they WON'T FOLD their draws - which they hit (as a table) with frightening regularity. So it's perfect for that group of guppies.

Thanks Aok for encouraging feedback! I decided to play some counterplay again - opportunities to "raise so much that they'll bleed when peeing" are rare, but it's unbelievable how often opponents call huge raises.

After 6 hours of 3-tabling 25NL) net profits were about $90, after playing comfortable, non-tilt clean poker. However in the beginning, limping with AA felt really bizarre LOL...

The lion's share of profits are from destacking several players, who really wanted to see how real "nice hand" looks like

    But here go some questions:

    - How to counterplay high (JJ+) overpair or mid overpair (99+) on total rags board? My play was checkcalling small bets (1-2BB), in the case opponent is betting underpair (and optional result can be tripping up, but it's only bonus, only 1:23 odds), then checkfold bigger bets when not improved.

    - How to counterplay AA/KK from SB/BB preflop with several limpers? I guess, there are two options: raise preflop huge to the point it hurts when they pee (hilarious metaphore BTW )
    OR
check, draw to trips and check-call reasonable bets in order to get paid off by top pair/underpair/lower overpair holder?

Action in front of me, flush draw with multiple callers forced me here to push hard on flop with max (pot-limit) raise...well sometimes pure counterplay may lead to crack great hands more often, but it's all paying off when it's cheap to make nut-hand.

This is a pretty impressive testimonial to COUNTERPLAY.

Now I have to try this out.

Let's see if I've got this right: Call Call Call - Drop the bomb!

    Okay that's easy enough.

I'm not sure about this hand vis-a-vis counterplay. On the one hand, I feel like I performed the strategy correctly, and if I had been playing normally he may have stacked me. On the other hand, bet so much it hurts when he pees backfired. Thoughts?

CTPlay in Pot Limit is not so good - when you develop a boss hand, it's necessary to make a huge overbet.

    About your hand:

AA/KK UTG in counterplay is limp-RERAISE hand. Not limp & call After MP2 raising you should pot-reraise, narrow the field and pot the flop. You'd probably lose more money this way at THIS flop, but that's how the Aces/Kings should be played in counterplay.

    i just reread:

Early or mid pos - call and Hope someone raises behind you. If noone raises you have to look at it as a drawing hand and hop for trips. Call TPTK bettor down, but don't go slinging chips with multiple players in the hand post flop. You hand value decreases dramatically.
standing up and switching to NL. will post results

aokrongly: i have a question regarding tightness here. Do you play low pairs and KQs style hands at all with this strategy or is the TT+ rule good?
