Standard.. the last thing you want here is for somebody to see a cheap turn and have paint land. Stacks aren't very deep here at all so it's very possible that anyone with a strong ace here is losing their stack to you.

I'm feeling the 1/2 - 2/3 pot bet here. Reps a pair but not much confidence. Hopefully UTG has a good ace.

I usually checkraise here, but that's fishy and not optimal, I know. I like the 1/2-2/3 pot bet to get a nice reraise of UTG's AK/AQ.

Gotta love the short stacks btw.

I like it against a player rigid enough to be new. He hasn't been around the block enough to fold an ace here, and with how tight he is he probably has one.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?

I usually run two lines here.

    1. When UTG raises preflop like that I like to check/raise the flop. This is only when I am fairly certain he will bet.

    2. I bet at the flop pot sized (as you did) let him raise and then reraise. Lots of times they come over the top when you bet into them like that. Brunson says that when you flop a big hand many times its correct to bet into them and they will likely raise.

Yup, I like it, but I make other plays here as well with some decent success.

    1) I do exactly as you did, possibly taking it down on the flop, or our boy with AK gets jiggy with it and you clean house.

    2) I make a bet of 1/2 to 3/4 the pot. This can either take it down on the flop (which you don't want), build a nice little pot or cause our boy with AK to get jiggy with it.

    3) Sometimes I'll make a 1/3 pot bet to make it look like I'm throwing down a "blocking bet." TThis will get an overbet by somebody with AK, a bet I will just call. I hope and pray that nothing too scary falls on the turn. I'll check it hoping that my opponent will bet hard, and I'll check raise the bejezus out of him when he does.

    4) Just check it and hope that someone else bets. This is dangerous though. If you're going to do this you have to be willing to let go of your set on later streets if the board and opponents tell you you're beat.

Since it was only min-raised preflop I'm typically going with option #1 here, there's way too much junk out there that people could have (KQ, KJ, QJ, QT, etc)...

I like the bet-out but I usually don't go that strong. Even if it gets their hackles up and they have an ace, it makes them suspicious and thoughtful. A fishy weiner bet like $3 is fun and almost always good for a raise.

    Marry Me Cheryl!!!
i check raise this if i assume later players will bet at it or i bet weak looking on the flop hope to get raised and then try to force the other guy to commit a good proportion of his stack.

you want to rep a weak ace here! Is betting pot size the best way to do so?? This of course depends on your table image...

Check raising on the flop here is horrible, it gives too much info and an easy exit for many hands that will pay you off playing other lines. That is assuming that you don't make the flop check raise bluff frequently in these situations.

I would not be scared of giving a cheap turn card at all here! If I get outdrawn on this board I am happily paying off a $50 stack. My main worry is to get all the $ in.
