Heads Up Tourneys (10 + 0.5)
I recently deposited $60 in Pacific poker for fun and with friends. They have cool heads up $10 +.5 tourneys that last about 5-25 minutes. The blinds go up every 15 hands, starting at 10/15 with initial stack sizes of 1000. Basically I would like to know your guys optimal strategies for these types of tourneys if you don't want to read on.
If you're curious for more information about my question, I've played over 400 $10, $20, and $30 dollar SNG's at Party Poker with a win percentage of 38% (could be better I know, there is definetly room for improvement in my game). I'm not a complete noobie now, however, and I do know how to play thanks mostly to FTR!!!! Anyway, after losing my Pacific Poker deposit I realized that my heads up playing is TERRIBLE. I think I might be too aggressive, being used to large blinds at the end of SNG's where aggressiveness pays. Dan Harrington's book if I remember right prescribes calling preflop with the lower half of starting hands and raising with the upper half. To a raise you should fold the bottom third and call with the top thirds (depending on the size of the raise). Obviously you have to take into account pot odds and such, but as an overview that's what you think about. Postflop, however, he doesn't go into much detail on what to do. I know that bluffing and semi bluffing with even king high is an important part of the heads up game, but how often is it profitable? I think the reason I'm losing money is I bluff too much, but if you don't bluff in a heads up game, your'e not going to win. So what're your guy's heads up tourney strategies!
Thanks for the help!
