Heads up hand

We were playing a tournament at one of my friends house, and when we were heads up I had a 2 to 1 chip advantage on my oppenent. I was dealt KJ offsuit in the small blind and raised it up three times the big blind. My opponent went over the top of me all-in, and I was thinking that the best possibility for me was a race, therefor I thought about folding the hand. A bystander ask why would I even be thinking about folding the hand, so I was just wondering would folding here be a stupid decision giving that I thought the best situation I was in with a race?

Oh yeah, I did pick up a read off him, because he said to much and I picked up that he really didn't want me to call. So I did end up calling and had him dominated and won the hand as well as the tournament.

I definitely think that (without a read) folding here is the right play. KJ isn't a great hand, even heads up.
