KK with Str8 board

Too passive here? My fear was the only hand that would call turn/river bets was an already made straight. I think in retrospect I should have bet turn to stop the draw ... but CO was loose so I feared QJ was certainly possible for the flopped straight, and the Q on the turn increased the chance of a made straight.

Bet the turn near the pot...you really want to build the pot in case you fill up and he does have the straight...I think it's best to lay down a blocking bet on the river so that if he comes over the top heavily you know he's got the straight.

I have twice now made the mistake of checking the river, and calling the opponents ridiculous all-in bet, thinking that it was too silly to have caught - to find out they flopped what I feared...yet in both cases I basically bet near pot on the flop and turn and then checked the river (out of position in both hands)...in a very similar situation with KKK on a 3 flush board in a 3 way flop, and AAA on a AKT board headsup...checking the river is a mistake because of this very vulnerability - he pushes to your check, you second-guess that he suddenly thought you missed whatever you were after and he has the best hand after all, or you think that he was chasing the flush/straight etc. and is bluffing at your weakness, when in fact, they just know they have the best hand and don't know how to value bet (or intentionally want it to look like a bluff).

OK I think I get what you are driving at here. This player seemed kind of passive and everytime he had shown down a hand he had a good one. I can see though the weakness of playing it the way I did was that if he had bet strongly on the river in all likelihood I would have layed it down. By checking I was basically gambling that he wouldnt bet.

If he has flopped the straight, theres a good chance he is raising you. Bet into him on the turn, gauge where he is at. You don't have to committ yourself but a solid bet there is going to be a good indicator of where you stand.
