Ok I f***'ed up this hand, but how do you play this against a completely unknown who just sat down?

Flop: ($12.50) A, T, 3 (3 players)
BB bets $7, Hero calls $7, CO folds.

Turn: ($26.50) 6 (2 players)
BB bets $14, Hero calls $14.

River: ($54.50) 9 (2 players)
BB bets $25, Hero calls $25.

Final Pot: $104.50

I would probably raise the flop and fold to the turn bet. If he checks the turn I would 1/2 pot it and fold to a raise.

However, keep in mind I am a full ring pussy who's still getting used to shorthanded.

These hands always kill me. You kinda "know" you are beat but where can you lay it down?... sometimes you win though, if he's a donkey that hit TP on his A4. Against a halfway sensible player, you're up against AK/AQ/AT, all equally likely almost, and they all beat you.

i think just calling down in spots like this is usually a mistake, and you can probably fold the river with this line.

i think raising the flop small, then trying to check it down is fine.

also, sometimes i raise the turn to $30 and dont put any more money in the pot unless river is a jack.

Raise the flop to $18 or so, then either throw out a 2/3 pot bet on the turn and fold to a raise (and check behind on the river) or check the turn and fold to a big river bet.

Pot after his $7 bet is $19.50, so how much would you raise? For $14? I have no real objections to this, but it seems kinda weak.. and to raise too hard on a hand where you probably are beat seems stupid too. Something like this has to be better than just calling it down like a donkey though.. (which I tend to do here I have to admit)

2.5x raise would be just fine ..

When people lead into me when I'm the preflop raiser I usually pot it (including their bet). It means one of two things when they do this:
1. They are taking a weak stab and fold to my raise.
2. They have a strong hand and they are trying to build the pot. Once they call my bet, I'm checking down unless my hand improves.

If you just call them down, you really don't know if they have a stronger Ace (or a set) or a draw like KQ which you are giving them a chance to hit. Please tell me he didn't have 9T.

Calling down with a read is very profitable sometimes; some people just make random bluffs into the pfr..

Anyway, without a read I like a flop/turn raise which makes your decisions easy. There's also no shame in folding turn/river.

I remember a couple days ago I called something like this down (thought the was kinda laggish preflop) with A9 and I beat out A8 lol.
