cmon. variance at 6-max sucks. my bankroll has taken a huge hit in the last 24 hours. and the last 4 times i've had aces it's been folded around to me. damn this is annoying.

Never read any stickies or announcements
    first hand:
fold preflop, raise the flop harder, and get it allin the 2nd time around

    2nd hand:
you got it in with the best of it, shake it off. variance happens to everyone.

in a van by the river
on the flop she raised to ten with 2 people in the pot which is usually a set bet and given the board could have been a strait so i would have folded on the flop after that you cant really fold the 2nd nuts

how about a river heart to stack him. that'd be nice.

What do you mean by this? He doesn't know what he is up against. I mean, it might as well be AK vs AA on an AK9 board the way this played out. I personally don't fold this preflop when I'm in the button and noone has called yet. He just had extreme bad luck to hit the flop hard in a dominated spot..

I always try to tell myself that in the long run, I'm gonna catch a guy in the same spot too so it'll even out. Dunno if that helps me though, but it's something.

Warning signs.. Not very helpful in this particular hand, but something to remember in similar spots in the future.

I really don't like the preflop call btw. Terrible reverse implied odds. It's way better to call with 87s than QJo here.

True but if his opp had had AA/KK/AQ you probably would have cashed in big on this flop.. if you fold it you miss that value too.

And yeah, that last one is a pure bad beat. Not really relevant besides venting..

This is nothing to do with the cards percentages etc, but I have played about 150 or so hands with Eleventy at 50NL 6-max and he is weak tight (20/13 aggression factor of 1 and all of that is aggression on the flop when he hits). Based on that i'd fold when he went ballistic on the flop, if he doesnt have a set he has the straight either way hes beating 2 pair. His avatars a crying eye or something isn't it?

Yah it is. This is why I feel I really need to get PokerTracker. And that full house hand really pissed me off. I guess I want donks going in with a pair of Kings and an overpair (Aces) when they are obviously beat, but runner runner 9s to complete the boat for them was just gay. I've played with Andypok, and I know he is a multitabler but I never see him up.

And thanks for the Eleventy info. I really need to get PT.

i understand vqc is going to be angry, but how fucking long is this variance/downswing going to last? i've had shit cards for 4 days now, and when these rare instances pop up for me to cash in, shit like this happens. i can't win a pot to save my life and my bankroll should be a good $250-300 higher then what it's clinging on now at.

i know. it's just once again, this downswing has just wiped out my bankroll. i'm fearful to post this next one for fear of what vqc will do to me, but i just lost another buyin with KK on a 4-Q-3 flop all-in where I got called by QJ and he hit a jack on the turn.

if a downswing has wiped out your bankroll you have very bad bankroll management and will go busto again and again if you don't stop that.

    How much did you lose?
  22. #22
Roughly $250-270. I played out of my limit at NL50 for a little while and 2 hands (the QJ one) and another wiped out 100.

The rest has just been lost on mostly all-ins like the ones posted above. I really thought I had it figured out. Was up to $300 at one point but I can't keep it rolling forward. Something always happens like this where I just hit a terrible swing and can't catch cards to save my life. LoL I had AK in the BB like 4 times today and it was folded around to me each time. AA KK QQ all folded to raises. AA cracked by 5-6 to a preflop raise. I mean cmonnnnn. What the hell do I have to do to keep my bankroll afloat?

One route I was considering was just multi-tabling full-ring games and set camping. But this would bore the hell out of me. I like to play poker. Not just sit around waiting for sets to bring in money. Maybe it would be more profitable, but you're definitely not improving as a player.

I'll look through some HH's for some good winning hands though.

I reached this point once when the 6-max swings got a bit much for me, about 5 hands in I got KK and someone else had AA; all in preflop hahahahahahahahahaha :P I'd post hand but at work at the moment.

I just moved back to 6 max after that.

Was up to $300 at one point but I can't keep it rolling forward.
I've had a day at 10NL where I played 9 hours and made $150. One day at 10NL! Haven't played too much 20NL - haven't played in 3 days to be honest - but so far the highest rolling day was 3 and a half hours of play making me $110. I'm still mortified about coming even close to thinking I'm good at poker.. it wrecks my game beyond belief.

Btw sometimes - and they seem to be far more sparse than bad luck, atleast for me - you do get a suckout yourself, that kinda restores your faith in the poker gods. Here's my favorite. I wasn't even looking at the screen anymore, just muttering "bloody hell my luck is the WORST EVER god dammit I can't catch a break EVER?!!" and then suddenly the money came my way?! Hehe

Get a new table if you don't want a tight game. It's easy to find a 6-max table with one or two guys that limp almost every hand.

    johnnyBuz,

Based on reading through your HH's that you've posted, you look to be a pretty bad player. While no doubt you posted a few nasty beats, I think you are losing so much money because you are just getting outplayed. The specific hand histories that you posted are ones where you took bad beats, but these are just a select few hands. Based on your table talk, you also seem like you are the type to go on tilt.

I think emailing stars (or party) and asking them to revoke your chat priviledges would add a worthwhile amount to your winrate (or cut down your losing rate, whichever applies). I'm being serious.

Eh.. If you or someone wants to objectively review my HHs, I can give them to you for the past couple days or week or so. It's a lot harder to spot leaks in your own game, and thus, I don't feel I have any huge ones. I don't know about me getting consistently outplayed though. Sure it happens a few times, but most of these have been bad beats and an occasional big bet on the river where I could have saved some money.

I think to say I'm getting consistently outplayed at the NL25 level would be giving them just a little too much credit. A lot of hands I post may seem retarded, like raising 2-8s, but when I do things like that it's usually because I'm playing the table/player, not my cards.

I'll tell ya what, right now it's halftime in the Cavs/Pistons game and my friends are on a food run, but when I get back, I'll point out a few (big) leaks in your game. At least what I think are big leaks.

You can open your game up a little bit if the players behind you are really tight, but at least stick to hands with some potential. You'd probably be better off if you never raised with 82 again. I have a feeling that you sometimes just raise with junk because you've been getting dealt junk for awhile and you're tired of folding. Stop that.

That hit the nail on the head. Although I don't feel my biggest leaks come from PFR and Flop play, I think it is turn/river play.

leak fix 3) Do something else besides limp pf. I prefer a fold (and I most certainly think you should fold), but if you aren't going to fold, raise.

leak fix 4) I'll give you some options for this one. In order of what I would try if I were you.
    a) practice self control and don't say anything like this. It's just going to get you pissed off and venting in the chat and will throw you off your game. 'will'

    b) email pokerstars support and tell them to turn off your chat because it's clearly going to be -EV for you.

    c) I forgot what I was going to say here.

leak fix 7) There will be those that disagree with me, but you should fold preflop. I like attacking the dead money, and I very well may raise preflop, but I don't think you have the post-flop skills necessary to make this a +EV play. I hope you don't take offense to that because thats just my opinion and I'm trying to help as best I can. Also, see above about my chat recommendation.

and the tilting is starting to set in

and can't catch cards to save my life
leak fix 10) stop making excuses and instead re-evaluate your own play. There are glaring leaks that cost you money. And other more subtle ones.

So basically, chill out when you lose. Play tighter preflop. Play more agressively. Stop complaining about variance. And stop talking when you play.

Good post Lukie, I advise you take his advice very seriously, especially in regards to playing within your bankroll and to stop whining so much. If you play poker and get in 1-2k hands a day you will see plenty of horrible beats, cold decks, suckouts, bad plays and so forth. If you go on tilt or let your game get affected then you are seriously detracting from your game. Poker is by nature a brutal game, the best player often times doesn't win in the short term. If you can't accept variance and bad beats then poker is not the game for you.

You may feel you're better than most 25-50nl players (which is hardly a feat btw), but you still are making a lot of fundamental mistakes like limping too often preflop, calling raises OOP with hands like QJo when you aren't experienced enough post-flop to make this +EV.

Just play good poker within your bankroll and the money will follow, trust me.

when is limping appropriate then, suited connectors and low pocket pairs only? (and occasionally raise them to mix it up?)

If I'm first in I almost always raise or fold. I raise 22 UTG and pitch the low suited connectors, but the high suited connectors like T9s-QJs I will raise from any position regardless of limpers. People always want to limp in and see cheap flops with small pairs, but I look to build a pot preflop with them and hope to win a big pot if I hit, while still being able to win the pot with the worst hand as the aggressor. If I'm on the button and everybody has limped I'll limp a wider range of hands, but hands that really have a lot of potential like a TJs or a pocket pair I always raise.

It's my time to complain! Played two hours today, nothing. Dry of cards. Then within the span of 5 minutes made 3 buy-ins. Then another 2 hours of not only a dry of cards, but also horrible luck on the few good hands I got. All my profit gone. So I ended up playing 4 hours for $5. Annoying to say the least. And 2k hands and not flopped even one set.. wtf are the odds to that?? Damn I leaked money like crazy on pocket pairs.. I think I'm due a lot of set equity!

And this is an easy laydown correct? Or was I playing too passive? It's hard to think I'm ahead here. I feel like I'm probably looking at JJ-AA or AK.

i just re-read this entire thread and realized it was just overflowing with huge nuggets of knowledge that would really help me out if i re-read it more often and really tried to apply it.

i really feel like my "comeback" is going to be successful this time.
