lemonade was a popular drink and it still is

    Default English translation

    Literally.

I have a question for the members from the UK. What does it mean when you guys say "taking the piss"? I get "taking a piss", but the afforementioned phrase has me baffled.

    Taking the piss is... um...

    Making fun of something/someone.

If you're taking the piss out of someone, you're making fun of them, making jokes about them, that kinda stuff. Although taking the piss is also used in the context of someone doing someting unexpected and rather stupid.

    Example 1:

A donk bets all their chips in at you when you have the nuts.

    "You taking the piss?"

    Example 2:

"Can't believe you slept with that fat bitch. Did you have to climb on top of her to get anywhere? How'd you meet her? Were you trying to flag down a taxi?"

^^ That's taking the piss out of a guy who's done a fat bird.

You can take the piss in a general sense - i.e. do something that seems so absurd as to be insulting or mocking - or take the piss OUT OF someone, where you are directly making fun of them.

(I presume you're aware, also, that being pissed = being drunk, while being pissed OFF = being annoyed)

No, the context it is used in is to 'take the piss out of something.

eg. I always take the piss out of Xianti for his old age.
