Fantasy Football anyone?

Hey I noticed that FTR had a fantasy football league.. and since FF is one of my greatest addictions, I'd like to be involved in this year's league...

I'd even be happy setting it up... though I would very much like to do a live online draft, as the computer simulated ones are laughably bad.

I'd like to set up at least a 12 team league (possibly deeper), w/ some of the standard scoring setups... Any interest out there?

We did have a cool league last year, it was a lot of fun.

Hopefully we can do one this year too although I don't want to go with EA Sports again. Yahoo seemed to work fine for our basketball league, maybe we should consider them for football.

20-30 people?? Holy crap! I'm not really sure what our options would be for that...

I've used Yahoo a great deal, but never tried anything of that size before.. do you really think we could get that many people involved? Seeing as you and I are the only people interested (oh.. i suppose we do know for sure that Miffed is not interested... WHEW...) I wasn't sure.

I'll do some investigating and see what I can come up with....

Yes, I do. We could invite everyone that stayed active in last year's league. Also, we could promote it more on the site (like in the Community Forum which is more popular than this Sports Betting Forum).

If ftr throws in prize money and we give people enough notice then I think we'll have a nice turnout.

The largest leagues go to 14-16 teams and usually have standard size teams.. utilizing depth and matchups is critical for many of those large teams. If we are concerned about diluted talent we could set up two conferences of 12 teams each that count as seperate universes of NFL players. So each conference would have an LT and LJ.. etc.. there is usually some interconference play, but mostly you just play against your own conference and then they meet up in the playoffs or something...

Everything looks cool with your league, I'm glad it is moving forward. Hopefully it will encourage people to have more football discussions than we did last year.

Last time I checked your league requires each player to pay a $50 registration fee. Like last year, we should have at least one free league. We have room for more than one league in this community so I think we should keep things going in this thread for all the folks who want to play fantasy but don't want to invest the $50.

Like ItDepends said, folks can play in both leagues so everyone interested in the free league should post here.

Once things are set with the commissioner we need to decide on the software(I recommend yahoo), the format and the number of teams.

Well, I made a league on Yahoo but we can only do a max of 20 teams...

I actually set it to 14 since we don't want a completely dilute league... but that could be adjusted.

I also did some snooping around and haven't been able to find anything that allows tons of teams that doesn't charge something...

www.rtsports.com has something we could set up divisions and such like I mentioned in an above post so we could do 30 teams there but it costs $90 JUST to do the league.

I won't divulge the yahoo league id and such in case we find something better... Let me know what you guys think!

king, don't go any more then 14. I mean you can only go so deep at RB. If you go over 14 I'd advise 2WR 1RB and 2-3 flex spots.

I'm in a keeper league that runs 20 owners. We used to have 30 but cut it back to 20. The way we do it is we run an AFC and an NFC conference with 10 owners in each (east and west divisions). Then in the end we play the AFC against the NFC for the superbowl. We even do interleague play just like the NFL.

When we had 30 owners we had 3 divisions inside each conference.

Just an idea for whoever asked how you could run that many owners.

edit: Plus we used clones of all the players. Since we are a keeper league these clones do wonder into the same conference sometimes, because we allow trades of players and draft picks. But if you did run a setup like I detailed above in a redraft league then just use the clones in each conference and that way you have plenty of players for each draft.

We should also require that all league members email you a backup list of their top 150 players so we have something for them in case they don't show up on draft night(obviously those folks who do show up do not have to use the picks in their backup list).

I understand the point of having this if we conduct the draft in the FTR chat room, but that creates a TON more work to do this whole thing... and I'd much rather just do it with the online draft software that yahoo makes available. One of the reasons we do these leagues here is so that members can talk more about football in the forums much like the way the Gauntlet creates more poker conversations in the forums. Let's start by listing the 12 yahoo teams in this thread and then ask those forum members to identify themselves. This makes it less confusing during the league. you do not have to worry about that - Its always cool to have a live draft, but if people cant make it the computer will use their pre-set Auto pick players....Even if people don't set the auto rank players at all, Yahoo still assigns GENERALLY fair ranks so the team owners won't be totally screwed if they aren't there -

I have done Yahoo! exclusively and I love it - I think we should have ind. D spots (like Lewis and Uhrlacher can be on your team) and massive points categories....

If there are any spots, I would love to play free or a buy in (up to like $50 would be tops for me...14 teams would still bring a TON in for the prize pool)

OK, obviously I got a little busy and have been a piss poor commish. Earlier this summer I had all sorts of time and things have been tight recently.

The draft was set to go... but a 13th owner joined and so it automatically switched to an autopick draft.

If LiminaintEZ joins.. I will try to find a time to draft... one option would be to draft sometime on Friday after the first Thursday night game... there might be some spots open. I honestly can't even look at available times until we have an even number of teams.

If we already filled out are draft picks then do we need to be there if it is an auto-draft? I was there last Wednesday but I couldn't tell if it was necessary.

you can have a live draft and whoever makes it, makes it - But ifyou have players pre-ranked, doesn't matter if you make it or not - computer will take the player at the top of your list when its your turn to draft - Live drafts are just a bit more fun cause you can criticize peoples picks

Sounds good to me, PPR is a nice reward for owning possession-type receivers.

Also, we told everyone in last year's league to use this Sports Forum for communication - not the league software. The same thing applies this year, please use this ftr Sports Betting Forum to discuss anything related to our league. In other words whether the league is on EA Sports, Yahoo or some other platform, we want to keep the communication here on ftr, not on some external platform. Part of the reason for this is that it keeps other members up to date on what is going on. Another reason is that posting in the forums automatically gives us archives of what we discussed in the leagues.

I actually think your team woulda been ok if you had tapped a little RB depth.. instead of laying on the WRs... late in the draft.
