what combination of high cards does he actually beat?
Fwiw, i might fold the river because you dont beat anything, but for the price i still call anyways.

If I bet the turn and he calls then hes winning. Almost any playable starting hand that stays with me has made at least 2 pair.

    1) I dont want to build a pot against 2 pair whilst scaring away 44.

    2) If I check he will probably make a nice small "value bet" that he knows I can call. This will hurt me alot less than trying to find out where I am by 3/4ing the turn.

edit: Who likes a fold on the river then? Ive been thinking about this alot. I really only beat a bluff. Does anyone float that flop with something that didnt make 2 pair+?

the only thing ill note is that i may bet the turn a lot with the intention of checking behind always on the river and folding to any block bet/real bet on that street. This is just because in position players will miss value (by assuming we will bet the river again for value) or tip their hand to us by leading oop on the river. Obviously if we bet the turn and get raised we also fold. Then i feel we get value for our hand, but obviously on stars against an UTG limper i dont think we are all that good here a lot.
But i measure that with the line you take here. FWIW, we do actually beat KT (edit: and KJ by the river, which may be a larger part of opps range here?)
(edit: why would i not be surprsied to see KQ/AQ here at showdown?)

Thanks. I think my biggest chip leak I make is making a big bet on turn that only something that has me beat calls This is a helpful post, especially because it seems easier to apply this knowledge than my other problem of missing value on sets and FH's. I either scare off, or bet too small.

I guess I sometimes confuse when not to "play scared" and when to sensibly keep the pot small based on the preflop action and what is on the board.

Unknown or vs. loose/bad player I think I play it the same. I check a fair amount turns with TP though... TPTK, not so much.

I would fold to a bigger river bet though (maybe even 1/2 pot).

fold the river if your hand read is strong enough.
