Default Backdooring the nuts in checked around small pots.

What do you guys do most of the time where you have a really small pot, like 4BB pot, and you backdoored a straight or something. Do you just make a huge overbet all inand hope someone calls or do you actually make a small value bet? If the answer all in, how big does the pot have to be for you to make a value bet?

I think the answer is that barring a really really terrible player read online you need to just make a value bet and accept that you're not going to win a big pot without building one up first. Your best hope is to draw a bluff raise (almost never happens) or get someone to make a river raise with something slow played (Backwards Aces, set, rivered second best.) Once raised, then you can consider an over-the-top-re-raise.

That being said, if you're playing a funny laggy game that makes over-bets routinely into small pots you might actually get a call. For the more TAggy sorts, I just don't think it's gonna happen.

This is exactly why I like to bet into nothing pots online if I have 4+ outs to the nuts.

I like overbetting just to make myself look like I am bluffing. If I'm OOP I'll almost always try a check-raise overbet.

Here is an extreme case, a hand that I posted before:

Wow...talk about waiting too long to bet your pocket pair (a common theme of another discussion today)

also "backdooring the nuts" sounds kinda creepy to me

    hmmmm.

Fwiw, getting the best value, no matter what that 'best' relates to in cash/bbs is the most important feature. I find people will show down bottom pair if you even just bet 1bb into a 4bb pot. That might actually be maximum value at times...
