Default Going to Early classes in College...

I have classes that are early but not that early this semester. Two days a week I have to wake up at Ten and two I have to make up at 9. THIS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN HARD IN HIGH SCHOOL, but idk why but I never go to sleep before one here. Everyday when I wake up before 11 I feel like crap. I feel like this is totally ridiculous but idk what to do. Any suggestions? Should I just take the pain, or attempt to go to bed Earlier? Or maybe some nice tip?

Go to sleep a little bit earlier each night and set your alarm clock for the right time

You're 18 or something, aren't you? I was reading an article a couple of months ago that basically proves how it is biologically hard for 16-21 year olds to get up as early as either children or adults.

However, odds are that in your adult life you'll have to get up earlier still, every day, so suck it up, set an alarm and try to go to bed earlier. Welcome to being a grownup

What do you mean? I had highschool start at 7:30 every day, last semester I had 5 8ams every day and had no trouble attending them all.

I changed my sleeping schedule so that I was in bed by 9 every sun-thurs and fri and sat I would just go with the normal college schedule

I had my schedule all set up to never need to get up before 10:15 or so, but then they had to assign me to be a teaching assistant for a 9 AM class, the jerks.

Exactly the same situation as me, most of my lectures and tutorials start at around 9.15 each day so i have to get up at like 8am...

If you can manage to sleep at around 1am each night, it shouldn't be so bad.. easier said than done. I'm too used to staying awake until 3am or so playing tourneys and cash games when all the americans are online so its even more difficult to sleep at <1am. But as gabe said, skip a class every so often

You college kids stay up all night playing poker on the internet?

What happened to smoking pot, drinking beer, and trying to get laid?

When I was in college, except for on days where there was an exam or announced quiz, I just skipped any class before noon (except for a every now and then classes that I either had to go to because of harsh attendance policies or wanted to go to because of good teachers or a good class material--both rare). And I skipped about 50% of my classes after noon. Come to think of it, I really only regularly went to like 1 or 2 classes per semester. All those 9am lectures are pretty worthless, especially when juxtaposed with a few more hours of sleep every day. So my recommendation: skip as much of those early classes as you can get away with without significantly hurting your grade or education.

Nowadays I have no problem getting up for work every day earlier than I would have had to for any class in college, but now I also have sufficient motivation to do so. In college, there was just no good reason to go to all these early classes.

There is so much beauty in this post it is making me cry.

IowaSkinsFan, to quote the Beastie Boy's fine CD "Check Your Head", "You should sleep late. It's much easier on your constitution." When I was in school I took as many night classes as possible that started at 5pm or 6pm, they were one night a week and lasted 3 hours each. Most professors would only keep the class for two hours because they were ready to get home.

My last two years of college were pretty massive. I took 18 hours each semester of those two years by taking 4 night classes and 2 afternoon classes. I didn't wake up until about noon. I went to an afternoon class at about 2pm. I smoked pot. I went to my night class. Starting about 9pm all I did was smoke pot, go to bars and try to get laid.

It's funny for me to look back on it now. Life is very different, but very similar. I wake up early now - 6am - but usually don't go to bed until about 1am. I own a successful financial planning firm. I am married and have two children (ok, pit bulls). I am still trying to get laid.

On weekends I sleep late. It's much easier on the constitution.
I'd like to meet Jesus. Not because people claim he was the son of god, but because he could turn water into wine. A man like that is good to know, because you never know when you'll need a bottle of wine or an extra nail.

Last semester my earliest class was english at 2:30. This semester its speech at 10:30 and 11:30. Its rough sometimes.

Lectures are bullshit. I've always been a believer that if I could download all the notes from the internet and study them in my own time I'd do far better in exams and need to put in far less time.

The only downside would be social.

so true, i dont bother anymore taking notes in class. just get printed handouts (off some punter who goes to class) and the books and you will do fine. having written notes are useless, ive never ever actually read back over them.

Having a big breakfast helps me stay awake and alert:

    1 Glass milk
    1 Glass water
    1 serving instant oatmeal
    1 toast with peanut butter
    multivitamin, vitamin c, vitamin b

It seems like if I have a skimpy breakfast I can barely stay awake during my hour long commute. Some people also do better with some caffeine in the morning, but I've heard it starts becoming less and less effective.

If online poker had existed when I was in college I doubt I would have graduated.

If you are one of those people who learns by reading than you don't need to go to class.

If you are one of those people who learns by listening, than you have to suck it up and go. The nice thing about college is that you can nap.

I was in the same situation as you were in last year except a little more crucial. My earliest class was 11am and I still regularly skipped it because I would be completely exhausted.

This year I have a 9:30 class on Wednesdays and 11:00 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I hit up the gym before class now so I regularly have to wake up around 9:00-9:30. I have not been having difficulties but I have made a lot of lifestyle changes.

I am eating healthy now, I try to have a salad with every dinner. I have cut back on late night partying during the week. I think that was huge because last year I would regularly stay up until 5 in the am on school nites. I also think going to the gym has helped me a lot.

    Hope this helps.

    peace

You've missed out. One semester I had twelve hours with three days starting at 1:30pm, the other two days starting at 3pm, and only one night class.

To say I drank myself silly that semester and partied like a rockstar would be, well, the most truthful thing ever said.

Fuck no, they're optional every day. yay!

When I had a 8 am class last term (had to be awake at 6:30a), I had a pretty routine schedule. Stay up til 3 am the night before, get up too late for first class, go to 9 am class, get home by the afternoon, sleep for 3 hours, wake up at like 7, eat dinner. Rinse and repeat.

I didn't read all the posts...

    But, I don't get it, 1am->9am == 8 hours of sleep.

I scheduled all my classes my freshmen year for noon. To do that my lab was 8 in the morning once a week. So I went to bed after 3am everyday (still got almost 8 hours of sleep) and just stayed up all night so I could make it to lab.

Towards the end I liked 9am classes cuz I could be done by 1 or 2 which is awesome.
