I can't see anything wrong with this although I'm surprised that the SB called your river bet. What would you have done if SB c/raised the river?

I thought the river bet was good, then I saw him call. I couldn't fathom a hand he would call with that I beat.

I'm assuming you're calling down here since you put him on overs? Why are you betting? Are you hoping he'll fold 66, or a pair of 7-9's?

I think if i'm calling down here with the read that villain is on overs, and he lets me check through, then I'll take the check through.

Does anyone ever bet (knowing or thinking villain won't call) for the sole purpose of him folding and not showing your hand?

A thinking villain can look you up with a good Ace here quite often.

Your hand looks like A6 and usually 99/A7 type hands played passively check behind on the river.

edit : obv this is sophisticated non-standard stuff though usually not employed at these stakes...
