    Default MP3 volume

I've recently started taking videos off youtube and converting them to mp3's (lotta soundtrack stuff) but a problem I have with a few of them is that they're incredibly low in volume compared to everything else in my itunes. When I play certain songs I have to crank the volume to max just to hear it and then when a regular song comes on next I blow out my eardrums...help.

Pretty much any audio editing software will allow you to normalize it to a standard volume level. I used to use cakewalk to do this, but haven't bothered in a long time.

use Audacity - its freeware, and quite awesome.

Once you download it highlight the whole track (or individual parts if theres certain areas) and go to effect > amplify. It'll put in a "suggested" number for you, which you can either go with or add more

is there a way to put in a batch of MP3's and it regularizes all the volume level?

no, dont believe so. Its an audio editor more than anything else, thats just one of the many features.

There is an option in the most current windows media player which will adjust volume on all mp3's as they are being added to the library. I am not certain if it will convert the original or create a new file.

One tool I have had recommended is media monkey for batch jobs. Also, if you burn an audio disk from mp3's using nero it will ask you during the burn process if you want the files normalized. I'm not sure if this makes them all the same volume, or adjusts files to a standard volume.
