Default Sun Poker - Rakeback change.

Sun Poker (and all other crypto sites) are changing their rakeback structure from 1st July.

    BIMONTHLY PAYMENTS
Paid on the 1st & 15th of each month (unless weekends)
Minimum MPP Maximum MPP Net Rakeback Equivalent Gross Rakeback
    0 249 20% 15.5%
    250 1,249 30% 23.25%
    1,250 2,499 35% 27.13%
    2,500 3,999 40% 31%
    4,000 5,499 45% 34.88%
    5,500 And above 50% 38.75%

    MONTHLY PAYMENTS
Minimum MPP Maximum MPP Net Rakeback Equivalent Gross Rakeback
    0 449 20% 15.5%
    500 2,499 30% 23.25%
    2500 4,999 35% 27.13%
    5000 7,999 40% 31%
    8,000 10,999 45% 34.88%
    11,000 And above 50% 38.75%

So for example if you plan to clear the $200 monthly bonus at 5x, you will get 1000MPP and your rakeback will drop from the current 32% to 23.25%.

Is that correct ? Not sure if current rakeback deal through FTR is 32% of Gross or Net rake.

    Hi Sinky,

Sunpoker will not have bimonthly payments but rather monthly payments as usual.

In your example, if a player earns 1,000 MPPs the player generates on average about $250 in rake. The player would earn $250 * 0.775 * 0.30 = $58.12

If you earn 5,500 MPPs, you generate on average $1,375 in rake. The player would earn $1,375 * 0.775 * 0.50 = $532.81 in rakeback.

The current FTR rakeback deal is based on Gross.

Fucking Crypto. Sorry Mark, this is the final straw - there's just no reason to play on Crypto sites any more.

I respect your opinion. Please do tell me your reasons why so I can document them.

    Kind Regards,

Sure. The big appeal of the Crypto sites for A UK player:

    a) the £ tables - more expensive in rake terms but inevitably softer than the financially equivalent $ tables.

    b) the excellent monthly bonuses

    c) the generous rakeback

    However, there are cons too:

    a) The sites seem to suffer more disconnection problems than other big players

    b) There are relatively few tables at each level except at peak times - if I want to play at, say, midnight GMT I may only have 5 or 6 $100nl tables to choose from; if even three of these are full of sharks, or if there are queues, I'm not able to play as I'd like - table selection is next to impossible

    c) - and I appreciate this one is subjective - Crypto really DOES seem to have a fewer fish in comparison to good players, even at peak times. For a while now, as I crawl along just about breaking even, I have felt that I might be forsaking too much potential profit trying to eke out winnings against quality opponents, when I could be stacking donks at Party etc. The argument for sticking around has been bonus/rakeback income which acts as a very welcome buffer against little or no profit at the table itself.

Now, I am not a big fish by any means; I play 8-12k hands a month, and make $400-$600 in bonus and rakeback. Losing 1/4 of my rakeback will cost me around $50 a month, and since I've been questioning my loyalty to Crypto sites anyway, it may well be the final straw that makes me seek other places to play.

Crypto sites have done well off me in the last two year - conservatively I think I've paid maybe $8,000 in rake for the pleasure of playing, and that's fine. But at this stage in my poker career, I need all the help I can get to get back into regular profit-making, and it's hard to see how I can do that with all the above.

Joining this late but at last I've found a discussion somewhere on the net about the Crypto rakeback changes, so I have to say something.

Since I split my time these days between SunPoker and PokerStars, the rakeback change won't affect me very much. I pay around $200-300 pcm rake and with another $100-150 in reload bonus the changes will make little difference. However, if this is just the first of a series of these then that would make a difference.

biondino's views on Crypto aren't that different from mine I think - just that I'm not yet at the point where it has lost its attraction.

    a) is a slight surprise to me - I've always avoided the £ tables because of the higher rake (which really Crypto, you should do something about). I'd add good customer support too. Compared to some other sites that is, still had beat-my-head-against-a-wall moments when trying to get an old £ Neteller a/c changed to my new $ one (and had to give up - I just don't play at that Crypto skin anymore).

    However, there are cons too:

    b) There are relatively few tables at each level except at peak times - if I want to play at, say, midnight GMT I may only have 5 or 6 $100nl tables to choose from; if even three of these are full of sharks, or if there are queues, I'm not able to play as I'd like - table selection is next to impossible

    b) I agree with - table selection is a problem, particularly since I play mostly stud ring games, HE sngs and HE MTTs. The first two suffer when it comes to numbers.

    a) I can't say I find a problem - net usually fine for me. c) I am surprised at, though maybe that's because we are playing different games. I find Crypto players worse than Stars ones, though it may be partly because I generally play higher at Stars. But the standard can change from game to game (I remember being amazed by the contrast between the tight and tough WPX ring games and the maniacs who played in MTTs there).

I've been playing at Crypto (InterPoker and Sun) for a month now although there a lot of pros (good bonuses/rakeback, good customer service, fine software, PT & PAHud compatible), I will be switching sites after the end of this month.

    - The traffic is a problem, even during prime time I have problems finding 6-8 good tables.
    - The play is not soft at all, one of the worst sites I've played at in terms of softness of play
    - No Moneybookers

I found another Euro site with a higher rakeback %, about 3 times the traffic, softer play and Moneybookers. It's really a no brainer for me.

I know but thanks for the response anyway.

The problem was with another Crypto site, not SunPoker (actually, it was with ECash, the poeple who handle the money). Just accountancy red tape but less hassle to give up on the site than jump through the hoops.
