    Default Rubik's Cube

I have a new goal. I want to be able to solve any scramble of the Rubik's Cube in under 1 minute. In the 20-second range would be extra dope. I'm currently memorizing some algorithms.

    Anyone here a speed-cuber?

This would be an excellent time for someone to explain Rubiks Cubing techniques. I was unaware there was more to it, such as memorizing certain algorithms, than moving coloured stuff to where it looks right.

I'm assuming we are talking about a 3x3x3? I used to have a 4x4x4. Sub one minute is pretty awesome, but sub 20sec wtf!

i used to be able to solve the cube every time under 2 min, but i never bothered to basically memorize the way to solve it like you are suggesting. For galapogos, there are certain combinations of turns that accomplish various things, such as aligning corners in the correct way without messing everything else previously done up. Just outta curiosity Xianti, why do u want to be faster than 1 min? It would take a crapload of memorization...when learning 5 moves can get you under 2...

    Yes, the 3x3x3.

Why? Dunno. Just seems like a do-able challenge. Actually, I was reading a tutorial by Tyson Mao (a blindfolded cuber) and there's basically like 4 or 5 algorithms that he uses. And he solves routinely under 15 seconds without the blindfold.

I thought i wanted to do this a while back. I bought a cube and set down and solved it, took me a while the first time. Then i left it on the floor and my dog ate it. Havent bought another one yet. Good story huh?

You need to get out more X-man.

In a weird way you remind me of my Grandad - he was fucking obsessed with that thing when it came out.

You are full of good stories, man.

As a kid I used to peel the stickers off the cube so I could conquer the square.

being taught how to solve a rubik's cube defeats the whole purpose of a rubik's cube. I'll be very impressed if you can just plan solve these "algorithms" your self.

My older brother can "solve" a rubik's cube and explains it as "Get it to look kinda like this and then just finish with a memorized sequence"

WTF is that? It only demonstrates that you can learn how to solve one but not that you can actually solve one.

even taking the stickers off I could never do it in under 1min.

    good luck.

    post some algorithems?

My best time is 24 seconds. I used to be able to solve it consistently under one minute, usually around the 30-45 second range.

There are a couple of "patterns" or "sequences" that you use in certain situations, like to align and orient the bottom corners, for example. These are what you need to learn, plus some basic understanding of stuff like overall approach, and how to fill in edges, etc. Its very doable, not really too difficult to learn, and of course it really impresses the ladies at the bar.

Once you get bored with it, try it one-handed (sub- 4 minutes) and with your feet (13 minutes).
    On moving up, properly rolled:

If you really want to impress the ladies, use a different body part.

If you really want to impress the ladies, DON'T BRING A RUBIK'S CUBE TO THE BAR!!

    Quick skit that I call:

    The Man With a Cube

Man: Hey, what's a pretty thing like you doin' here alone?

Hott a** bitch (HAB): I love this bar.

Man: Yeah, I know what you mean.

HAB: You can always meet someone interesting here.

    Man: Wanna see something interesting?

    HAB: Okay.

Man: (Pulls out Rubik's cube, and solves in 5 sec.) How about that! (He looks up and realizes that the HAB is across the bar talking to an ugly guy who does not have a Rubik's cube)

    Bartender: Dumba**

    The End

When I was in 3rd grade I could cube like a muh-fugger... I don't think I timed it or anything, but I was pretty damn good for being like 8. I then lost my cube when we moved, and the next time I saw one was 6 years later or so.. and I couldn't do anything with it.

Same thing happened with chess... although I wasn't AS good chess. I would typically split games with my dad who had masters degrees in Math and Computer Science in 7th grade... by 12th grade I couldn't do a fuggin' thing.

Lucky for me I've never forgotten how to twist off.
So you click their picture and then you get their money?

    I can solve the 3x3, 4x4, and 5x5

the best way to solve the 3x3 imo is to 1) form a cross on one side (making sure that the cross aligns the edge pieces with the centers on the adjacent four sides) 2) filling in the 2 layers 3) solving the top.

the other method which forms a solved 2x2 and then fills in the rest of the first 2 layers is too slow.

my fastest is around 50 seconds on the 3x3, never bothered getting faster than that.

am I racist for laughing at this?

    If not, how about this:

had placement testing on monday, met quiet kinda cute asian girl. Had orientation today and she followed me around the whole time. Not complaining, just saying... Anyways Ive never secksed an asian girl and I cant stop wondering if I could get her to say "me love you long time" while I tap it.

So how about it? Am I racist?
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

further more, if I am, does holding you (xianti) and tyson in high esteems lower my level of racism brought on by my twisted sense of humor?

I actually think that's funny. But you'll never get an Asian girl to say that, unless you do it with a Twinkie (yellow on the outside, white on the inside) girl who's in on the joke. She'll think it's funny, too.
  28. #28
violence will get a quiet little girl to say anything you want her to.

Now, if your racist for thinking that stuff, then what does this joke make me?

I was flipping channels one day, and bumped into a reality tv show where they had a group of nerds and a group of hotties. The show was to pair into hotti/nerd teams of two and then have the nerds teach the hotties computer stuff and have the hotties teach the nerds some social graces.

Anyway, there was an asian nerd who was a rubic speed champion. As an introduction of himself, he passed a cube around to the hotties, everyone gave it a few twists and gave it back to him. He studdied it for 15 seconds and then put it behind his back and solved it without looking in under a minute. During this one of the hotties says, "if only we could harness this power for evil."

I laughed my ass off and turned the channel.
