Default how ftr will look with a fixed width design - feedback requested

one of the biggest negative things we've heard since removing the left nav and shifting some things around is that the dynamic width stands out more, making it difficult to read longer threads, especially on larger monitors. so we've come up with a couple fixed width mockups and are wondering what yal think:

Poker Forum Index - Fixed Width
Poker Forum Thread - Fixed Width

Unfortunately, you can't actually navigate around or do anything as of now, just look at the index and thread. we should have an actual test mockup sometime, but are looking gauge what yal think now.

    any feedback?

stop messing around! this is serious! do the pages load for you?

On my phone, it looks great.

On my PC, I prefer it like it is, so I'd hope that we have the option to stick with this if we want. If you do use this, I think a dark background would look better.

it's possible. the fixed width would most likely be default and would could add the option to switch to dynamic.

What's going to happen when someone posts an extra large picture in a thread?

This looks like it'll work nice with a phone btw.

On chrome...it looks good but would prefer it as it is. Also was thinking about pictures like gala mentioned.

pics should be fine with some auto resize plugin that we should install here soon.

I like the new format, works fine on Chrome. I agree that the current width makes it difficult to read large blocks of text.

fixed width is of course win for readability but would be even more awesome if you managed to incorporate max-width instead of fixed. as in if the window gets smaller than say 1000 pixels it goes back to the fluid behaviour so no ugly horizontal scrollbars ever appear. I know it a pain with certain layouts sometimes from personal experience but I dont' see why it can't be achieved here to be honest.
