Default 4-bet: How big is yours?

I lead out for 4xbb in EP, opp in LP raises to 12xbb, everyone else has folded, it comes back to me and I decide I want to 4-bet....

How much would be standard if stacks are 100bb deep. Does this change according to our hand and our reads on opp etc? Does this change when stacks are 200bb deep? If so, why?

I would say that it depends on all of those things. If we want to get stacks in and think opp has a hand that he would get stacks in, but won't really like it when he does (eq. QQ), then a raise that will commit him pf will usually elicit a push over from a tighter player (this is the 100bb stacks BTW). They have finally gotten their big hand and won't want to let it go pf. They will know that they can't just call off half of their stack pf, so they will push over rather than fold.

EG. Villain in this hand is 8/7. I have been running about 18/13 at this table. We haven't really gotten involved. His raise sizing and the relative position made me think JJ-KK for his likely holding. I tried to raise enough so that his best option is folding, his next best is pushing, and his worst option is calling. I don't think he can fold this pf, and I am pretty sure that he knows he can't flat call here.

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (8 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    MP1 ($100.75)
    MP2 ($64.55)
    CO ($139.35)
    Button ($50.30)
    SB ($117.65)
    BB ($189.65)
    Hero ($134.95)
    UTG+1 ($138.40)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A, A. SB posts a blind of $1.
1 fold, Hero raises to $3, UTG+1 raises to $10, 5 folds, SB (poster) folds, Hero raises to $44, UTG+1 raises to $138.4, Hero calls $90.95 (All-In).

    Final Pot: $274.35

    outcome: opp has QQ.

I don't usually 4-bet bluff so I have no idea what the standard would be.

    good reply thanks pgil -
What would you have done if the stacks were 250bb deep?

As far as I know the std is to 4bet 2.5x villians 3bet in position.
(Add a bit more if oop or 110bb+ stacks)

This is big enough to give guy incorrect pot odds to set hunt but small enough to use as a bluff occassionally (against habitual 3bettors etc.)

when i want to get it all in on the flop i make it at least one fifth more of villains potential profit. This induces mistakes from every hand weaker than mine, aside from QQ vs AK, JJ vs overs etc.

3bets at my tables are usually 14-15BB.

4bet size depends if I´m planning to commit or not.
