Default Who are you rooting for and against in the ME?

Just browsing the 350 names left...

    For:
    Aaron Gordon (obv)
Andrew Brokos (Foucault from 2p2 and occasional posts here)
Matt Matros (2p2'er, read his book when I first started playing)
Hevad Khan (he's really good at basketball)
    Tiffany Michelle (hot)
Maya Geller-Antonius (not as hot as her husband, but whatever)
    Tommy Le (sick drummer)

    Against:
    Phil Hellmuth (obv)
David Benefield (raptor on 2p2, seems douchey)
Mark Vos (pro on FTP and he shortstacks, lol)
Jon "Pearljammer" Turner (he's a ginger)

For: Hellmuth, Kimber and Matusow. Evelyn Ng.

Phil did well to regain his stack after losing 1/2 of it on a suckout.

Against: Not really against anyone but Dwan. And he's already out.

oh and im against every woman left - have a prop bet w spenda that a woman won't make the final 2 tables

Phil and Mike for obv reasons. Ng cause she's kinda hot in a weird way. Or maybe it was the wonderbra shot that did it for me.

Can't wait to see the TV footage as Gus has been up and down like a yo yo for a few days and now he's cruising (not in the Durrr sense).

    ABH (anyone but Hellmuth)

Phil Hellmuth raised preflop to 18,000, and Keith Ferrera called behind him. The flop came {9-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. Hellmuth bet 20,000, and Ferrara called. The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, and both checked. Both also checked the {2-Diamonds} on the river.

"Ace high," said Hellmuth. Ferrera turned over A-Q, and Hellmuth mucked in disgust. Apparently Ferrera's queen played.

"I just got called for 20,000 with ace high on the flop," said Hellmuth. "I'm gonna get some bucks from that guy for sure."

I just want to see the internet players school the live pros and hellmuth bubble the final table
  19. #19
    lol Phil

With the board showing , Craig Marquis bet 25,000, and Phil Hellmuth raised to 55,000. Marquis made the call.

The river brought the . This time Marquis checked, and Hellmuth checked behind. Hellmuth showed for a busted flush draw, while Marquis had for a pair of fives.

Hellmuth immediately erupted. "Oh, this IDIOT!" he cried. "Called a raise with 7-5. This idiot from Northern Europe."

Marquis has 560,000, and Hellmuth is now at 200,000. He's not discouraged, though. He is saying he'll have a million by the end of the day.

omg what the hell is this crap

On a board of 4d5d6h , Phil Hellmuth was involved in a three-way pot with Felix Osterland and Barry Leventhal. Hellmuth checked from middle position and Leventhal moved all in for 399,000.

Leventhal said, "If I lose, I'm gonna go to the buffet."

There was some additional chit-chat but Osterland eventually folded and the action was on Phil Hellmuth.

"I know you got something," said Hellmuth.

"I got a bluff," replied Leventhal.

After some additonal back-and-forth between the two men, Hellmuth eventually folded Qd7d face up.

"Wow! How can you fold that?" asked David Saab from a nearby table.

The table encouraged Leventhal to show but he eventually mucked face down.

Of course I am rooting for Aaron. Of all the Pro's my favourites are Allen Cunningham (although just eliminated) and Mike Matusow (god is he telling me now that being fit and healthy helps your poker game).

I am rooting against Hellmuth, Brendon Cantu, Victor Ramdin and Shawn Sheikhan.

However how great would it be if a woman could win the ME?
  36. #36
Say what you like about the guy, and his laydowns, but Hellmuth sure knows how to negotiate a major table - even when losing massive chunks of his stack - when much bigger stacks have crashed & burned (Cunningham, Hansen, Sheikhan etc).

Nice to see Mouth in fine form too.

I think he's sound. Maybe 'cause I think a large part is tongue in cheek and another part is supreme confidence in his ability - and I can relate to that. I also think people are too easily offended by anything but modesty (feigned or otherwise). Away from the table he's cool and plenty of times at the table he's cool (many people miss it though - like on PAD when he told Doyle he was the best ever). At the table he blows up, but so do others - no big deal. Would you really prefer Humberto and his annoying shark? Or Hevad with his "I'm cumming!" noises?

Far be it from me to comment on his laydown, or disagree with the FTR dollar machines, but the way I saw it, he had up to 15 outs for the flush or straight. That's about 56% to win, I think, assuming either of those hands would win. He'd be flipping for his tourney life and unnecessarily so. And if he had one of his x ray vision reads, he may have decided that they wouldn't have won or that he didn't have 15 outs.

It's all very well saying it's an EV move in the long run but we're not talking a tourney that he can fire up again if eliminated, and play enough times to balance out. It's a once a year event full of thousands and plenty of chances to get bad beat. And it's also the event dearest to his heart. It's easy to say 'push' due to perceived equity (and he will know the maths involved) but is it really EV for him? Look what happened in 2005 when he lost KA to KJ. He's beaten 6400 thus far, why risk it needlessly - on a flip at best? And as he obviously feels he can outplay his opponents, he can probably pick better spots.

Maybe others in the tourney did adhere to the maths and push, and maybe that's why so many big stacks have fallen. Who knows? That's why I said he sure knows how to negotiate a field. He does a neat line in dodging bullets so I for one am gonna give him the benefit of the doubt.

Folding gives him an even lesser chance of winning this tourney full of thousands of people that only happens once a year.

I figured this is the best thread to post it in

Yesterday Hellmuth lost that pot against the T4s hand and reportedly he went beserk on the guy, berating him to no end, you know, the typical Hellmuth stuff. Well, it was ruled that he'd have to sit out an orbit to start today as a punishment, a move that would cost him 81k tournament chips.

Well wuddddya know, he talks his way out of a penalty!! So fucking sick how much respect they give this guy. He is a horrible person for the way he acts. The guy is flat out blessed to have the life that he does yet he treats the game and it's player with no respect and exhibits no class when presented to opportunity to.

    Cliff notes: Fuck 'em
