That politicians here never do that. They promise to cut taxes and then keep spending the same or increase it. We had a few years of balanced budget requirements ("pay-as-you-go") under Clinton and the Republican Congress, but all the huge budgets passed under Bush have been labeled "emergency" spending and weren't subject to those rules.

Expecting politicians here to talk about the tough decisions that must accompany tax cuts is laughable.

I doubt that it's a problem isolated to the US. It's a problem with politics in all contries. A politicians main goal is to get elected, and talking about the uncomfortable parts of his policies won't help him with that.

The fact that mccain even talks about tax cuts while he wants to continue the war in Iraq is utter insanity.

Tax everybody at an equal rate for anything exceeding the poverty line + a small allowance for increased standard of living in the US, close loopholes, problem solved. Well except for the part about spending less than you generate in revenue.

As others have said the US govt. much like Rome is not encouraged to do the right thing for our children, just the popular thing for the next 2-6 years to keep an office. Why do you think elected officials spend more on polling than they earn in salary?

The thing is, i doubt the democrats would have done anything really different if they were the one's in charge during 9/11 and afterwards. Traditionally, it's the democrats who have been very keen to start wars and the Republicans who has wanted to end them. It just happens to be a very easy point to criticize the current administration on.
People need to stop looking at this as a party problem and realize that it's the current system that's the problem.

By the way, I think it's already too late to get out of this mess, regardless of what policies are adopted.

I understand that logically different tax rates aren't fair, but in order to institute important government programs it is necessary.

Flat tax + balanced budget would be fine. But since we aren't going to have a balanced budget, we need more money in the government...

definitly understand there will concern for the issue is def. tied to how much money you are making at teh pokah, but there are still far more important issues and i dont really see either candidate as the type that would make shutting down internet gambling a priority. now the house and sentate, ...

Attorney General, Supreme Court justices, other appointed officials have a bit to do with it but yes congress is a huge factor.
