Default 50nl-200nl, How loose is too loose? - preflop

FullTilt since being able to buy cardrunners memberships with FPPs...

all the regs seem to be super-standard wannabe TAGs pre-flop stats between 9-7 and 17-12... most have a modicum of range variation by position, and they've even started to 3-bet. It sucks.

pre-flop edge against them seems to be about 3-betting/squeezing/blind play/targeting - and not about starting hand selection

post-flop we all still suck - this is where the biggest edges still lie

I'm trying to figure out some pre-flop changes to
    1) get players to think I'm crazy
    2) get into interesting situations post-flop

I ran a 2k hand experiment. Even though it's a tiny sample size, the spots I got myself into suggest that 29-23 is too loose.

I've been thinking about it and I figure that between 18-16 and 17-14 is probably ideal. Is this too loose for fullring? I remember Deanglow saying that Red is one of the laggier 200nl regs, and he only runs 17-14. I imagine he's also a lot better than me postflop, and the looser you play the more important postflop becomes... it's also easy enough to beat the game playing 10-8 with some 3-betting and stealing thrown in. But it's boring grinding like that. I'm going to run a 25k hands experiment to see if I can deal with that monotony - also as a test of discipline. But long term, yuck.

    thoughts please?

often it boils down to being more aggressive, not more loose

a perfectly played nitty style owns it up

    interesting thought...
the more I play and begin to understand a little of poker, the more I realise that there are loads of ways to skin that cat.... Looking at my database and the "winningest" players are 10-8, 9-6, 16-10, and 15-13 respectively.... the reason I was looking at a more lag approach is that it seems to be something that nobody is doing well. But maybe there is a limit to how loose can be profitable (superuser account notwithstanding!)

I think successful preflop looseness is a function of postflop skill.

....having tried a laggy preflop style when my postflop game was less than stellar.
