    Default ***SCI FI SHOWDOWN***

Sci Fi Showdown. Haters need not apply.

who wins? think oldies though. both sides bringing their best to the table.

I'd say we are comparing Star Wars 4-6 vs even numbered Star Trecks.

But this being FTR, and therefore this thread will go off topic, you can name whatever criteria (Such as tv shows, video games, James T. Kirk or Han Solo mancrush, books, cosplay etc.)you deem necessary for declaring a winner.

I have to go with Star Wars because it was the only one of the two that never bored me.

There will be a few Trekkies on FTR that will show their faces, but I'm not sure how this is a question. I'm only 29, but it seems to me that everyone knows AND loves Star Wars, while everyone seems to only know Star Trek, with only a certain breed of human being actually LOVING the show.

Where the hell is Battlestar Galactica on this list?

It also came out about the same time, and just because it didn't get any glitzy, movies doesn't mean it doesn't have about the same number of nerdcore fans.

As played: Star Wars. But Star Trek: TNG was a nightly watch at my house growing up.. so it's close.
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

while you are probably right, I still think its a fair comparison.
both these series have amassed huge numbers of followers.
both these series legacies go waaaaaaaay back.
both are set in space, and there is also canon for both.

    So, its fair imo.

What has struck me as amazing though is that for once we are seeing some sort of consensus around here. I was expecting there to be a lot of trekkies.
Around here, a huge number of fans of the genre are trekkies, mainly because of all the series star trek spawned. deep space nine, next generation, etc. We get into discussions like this all the time.

I myself love Star Wars for 3 things:
    1) the jedi concept
    2) the force concept
    3) motherfucking Darth Vader. he even has his own soundtrack for crying out loud! he's like in top three villains all time for me.
