    Default New Laptop

So I searched for the old threads where people asked for help with buying a computer but I couldn't find them with the search feature. Apparently comp specs is a very common phrase worthy of 42 pages of threads to go through. So anyway my current laptop which I got about 2 years ago is going all kinds of bad and I just recently reformated it and its still slow as balls.

So I'm getting a new laptop and I'm computer spec retarded. I'm also price retarded. I have no qualms spending the money on it if its worth it but I dont wanna buy some high end power machine when something far less will suffice.

The only thing I use my current laptop for is HEM, Poker, IRC, Skype, and my IM client. Oh and I put some movie on to fall asleep to at night. I'm trying to figure out if these specs are good or should I go up or down on something.

any advice would be greatly appreciated =)

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

if this is all you need a computer for, you can pretty much buy one blind. computers nowadays are able to handle all that and more without breaking a sweat really. only thing is to make sure you have enough ram (>2gb).

since u like movies...you could get one with a bigger screen and whatnot...but to just play poker and chat it really isnt a big deal what kind of computer u get.

operating system: 64 bit is awesome, you just gotta make sure you get things that support it like the correct processor i think. if u didnt customize it, you're fine. if you did there should have been warnings.

processor: duel core is sweet. 2.2ghz is fine. its on the slow side compared to things like the dualquad core and i7 and shit that are way faster than anything needs to be, but you wont notice any difference between the two when playing just poker. the dual core should make it seem alot faster than your old comp though

    memory: sweet, thats >2gb.

hard drive: 7200rpm is great. shun the 5600 ones or whatever number that is, you'll for sure notice a difference between the too and theres really no reason not to get the 72. 250gb is up to you, for most ppl this is way more than enough.

graphics card: dont remember anything about what a good card is...but u wont really need much and even the default pos ones should be an upgrade to a 2yr old comp.

what was the cost for this?

Agreed. Any dual core with 2GB or more of RAM should suffice. You can get good ones for about $650 or so that can do all these tasks with aplomb. Stick to bigger brands like HP and DELL and check your warranty and you should be fine.

specs are really good, solid machine. only thing that would tilt me is the small resolution.
