Operation: The off season

Hi Everyone, It has been a long time since I spent any serious time at poker, and now that golf has wrapped up (15th in the nation in my division, thank you very much) I am back to playing a little poker. To give you some background, I am currently a Micro player, mostly cash with the occasional tourney. I play 5 Max 5NL right now and have been playing for almost two years now. I have been a part time, hobby style player with 1 run at getting serious. I had started with a $50 bankroll at two sites, had built that up to $600 and withdrew most of it for my last vacation/golf tournament.

So now I'm back. I don't have a lot of the skills down yet, I know some basics, and I have a small starting bankroll, but I hope to turn this into something good. I'm shooting for a $100-$200 withdrawl each month, nothing too out of this world... maybe moving up to 25NL in about two months.

I don't get as much playing time as others... but we'll see how it goes, I miss having a blog and running my mouth... so let's get started...

Today: Played about an hour, 10NL on Pokerstars to get my feet wet again. Found I am pretty much where I was, after about 120 hands in an hour (two tabling) I was up $6.00

So, this weekend wasn't that great for the op... Friday night I played about 225 hands two and three tabling at 10NL, was down about 3 buy ins... Sunday, played about an hour and was down 1/2 BI, but then thought wtf and played a .35 tourney satellite... and won... so had a ticket to the daily double at 8pm. I ran through that on FTP, just before first break I had JJ in CO, UTG limped, I raised to 5x BB, this was about 1/5 of our stacks at this point, he shoves, I call, he has KK and I have JJ and the K hits on the flop...

All in all I think my cash play has suffered from lack of exposure over the summer. In sept while on vacation I played a bunch of 2NL online only barely paying attention and went up $14. That was 7 BIs in about 4 days... playing about 2 hours a day... but I've noticed a huge difference again between 2NL and 10Nl... and even though I am technically rolled for 10NL, I think I may drop back to 5Nl again and work on that for a week or two... get my mind right again.

Biggest leaks so far: Not taking the time to calculate odds... playing 'show me' poker... lack of player ranges

It's been another week, and though I got more playing time in, my BR is still moving the wrong direction. I have noticed my play improving now that I'm back to thinking more about it, but I'm still stuck with some ego issues...

"There is no way you hit on that flop, I know I've got you beat" - Wrong.

I've suffered a few real bad rivers, but all in all, the last week I'm down maybe 2 more buy ins. My bankroll is sliding a little, getting a little closer to where I may back down to 5Nl for a short while, to build roll and confidence back up.

Goals for this week: Stop being so cocky, know they have it when they 3-bet you at 10NL. Quit chasing AQ... and read the board texture better.

Yes, I stopped with IRC due to too much bs in there last year, I will try it again, and I usually post at work, so hard to do HH... but will start doing it at home soon...
