Default moving from sng's to cash...

as the thread subject suggests I am moving over to cash from playing SnG's. I haven't played much cash at all... (less than 1000 hands).

I am generally wanting to improve my cash game as I want to go on and play MMT's and to do that I've read that being good at cash helps.

basically I am wanting to know if I should play 6 max or full ring. I am going to start at the micro stakes and work my way up. I have a big enough BR for this.

for now I'm not too fussed about making lots of money, I just want to learn to play goot cash!!

    thanks...

Starting off with full ring would be your best option.
Tilt is poker cancer. You catch it, you die.

I recommend full ring because it's generally easier than 6-max just like 6-max is easier than heads up. With more players, you can wait for better hands and use position and patience to your advantage. With less players, you have to pick up pots more when you don't have a hand and have to be better @ hand reading in general. So, starting out, I always recommend full ring. It also translates better to live games.

On the other hand, if you REALLY find yourself wanting to play 6-max and liking it, it's not impossible either.

    Good luck.

I started with 6-max, I think it helped me position a lot more right off the bat. The importance of stealing and isolating fish is amplified as the table gets shorter and get in a lot more marginal spots with can quicken the learning process, assuming you review/post hands.

Once you move to FR, if you decide to, you will find it much more relaxing and easier to beat due to your 6-max education.

Micros are about learning at first, even if it means accepting a smaller winrate somewhat for the first 100k hands or so.

6-max will help your tournament play more than full ring. More blind stealing/defending, more marginal situations, higher variance. All those things can somewhat help you in tournament play.

But cash games won't insta-teach you mid blind, high blind, bubble play and other important stuff for good MTT play. In order to get better in MTTs you need a lot of practice... in MTTs.

If you want to focus on cash games only. Then start with full ring, move to 6-max when you're comfortable winner at FR. After that it depends, if you don't like the variance, you can move back to FR.

And try not to nit it up in FR. Setmining, while hugely profitable in micros... is not the only thing you can do in 10 or 9 handed game.

I think playing FR will help early stages when M's are still high and tables full, and 6max you may get more comfortable in late stages of MTT's when tables are shorthanded.
