Default Creating a SNG Strategy Blog-Plz Help

    Hello all
I've been an avid reader of these forums for a long time now. I am creating a SNG Strategy blog and would like for you guys to spit out topics I could cover. I love this site so much I have put FTP as one of my links on my blog.

But if you all could maybe read through my blog and see if you find the information valid. And also give me more topics to write about and I will give credit where it is due. Thanks all!

    My Blog-
    ProSNGTactics.blogspot.com

    PS.
Try to stay away from MATH. I have never once learned odds and stuff like that and have had great success at the poker tables. Although I know what pot odds are lol!

Um, math is one of the most important things in poker, and particularly SNGs. If you don't have a very sound understanding of ICM-derived push/fold decisions you will never reach your full potential in SNGs.

Otherwise, I'll have a read through your blog a little later and come back with any feedback or suggestions.

Thank you Tai. I understand math has a TON to do with poker. But I don't think every decision you make should have to do with calculating odds and THEN deciding if it is +ev. In my personal opinion COMMON SENSE decides if it is + or -EV. That is just my personal opinion. But I really respect your input Tai. Because of you I have won many SNG's.

common sense might help you put opponents on a range of hands, but math is where you find out if a specific decision in +/- EV

i had a quick look, still learning a ton myself but this is just my opinions.

first what stakes is this directed to?

like TAI said P/F game (especially on bubble) is probably the most important part of SnG strategy and your site mentions nothing on this.

your advice is very vague SnG's have many stages and strategies change throughout depending on blind size, players remaining, your stack size, opponents stack size etc. (e.g."limping with small pp is the thing you can do" this isn't necessarily true).

your BR management in my opinion is much to low (10 Buy ins for $5 - 20 for higher). personally i stick to around 80-100 BI's which might be excessive but i just feel more comfortable. but i would say min 40-50 buyins especially for beginners because 10 BI losing streak isn't uncommon

haven't completly read through it just a few things i noticed while glancing at it.

Thank you again. I might have to do some re-thinking. As it seems like I need to do some better organizing. I have written a ton of material, just finding the time to post them has been a struggle. Maybe I should complete my blog further before asking advice. I know all the math and stuff i just never incorperate with my game because I always have a ton of games going at once.

Thanks again guys and just remember I just started this blog many of my article are not published yet. The input helps a ton coming from actual poker players and not my peers. They said it was looking awesome lol.

Every decision in poker is a calculation of odds and then deciding whether or not it is +EV or not. However, the "common sense" you refer to is developed by analysing many decisions (using pot odds and +EV) and recognising patterns in them. Once you are very experienced you can recognise these patterns and do not need to do the analysis, but it still underlies every decision.

BTW I agree with fulksy that your BR recomendations are way too low. I would stick with minimum 40-50 for the very low buyins like $5 and under and 100 for the mid and higher buyins like $15 and up. The only way to not play scared is if you know your BR can take a 30-40 BI hit (which if you've played enough, you'll suffer at some stage).

I think you need to define more clearly what you want to achieve

I quickly browsed thru your blog, it seems like a relatively random collection of thoughts and topics, if your goal is to provide a list of tips and thoughts then this might work, if you want to write a comprehensive guide to Sng then you need to first figure out the general structure of the guide (for example, general guidelines, SNG selection, Early stage, mid stage, bubble, ITM, and specific general purpose chapters like playing shot stack, playing big stack etc...)

Wow. You guys have been awesome! I will totally re-structure my blog and have it be more specific towards one type of SNG. Keep it coming guys.
