    Default Furniture Advice Wanted

Basically, I'm looking for advice on mattresses and/or couches.

I just moved to Madison and am about to sign a lease on a 1 bedroom apartment. I have zero furniture to my name so thats going to need to change. IKEA has some sale going on through the 17th, but I've heard mixed reviews on their quality. I'm not looking for super cheap stuff, but I'm not stanky rich either. Help is greatly appreciated cause I'm a complete noob in this area and google was less than helpful. Thanks team.

It's always worth checking out garage/yard sales in the ritzier parts of town.

I dislike IKEA stuff, but really it's fine unless you plan on it surviving the next move. This applies mainly to their very cheap particle board stuff like bookcases, end tables, etc. I'm sure some lamps and other things wouldn't be ruined by the de-assembling/moving like the particle board stuff.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

i have tons of ikea stuff made out of said particle board and it all survived a 150 mile move. It weighs like nothing so theres no need to disassemble.

when I was in Madison, American TV was the place to go.

I like IKEA because I get bored quick and hate buying expensive shit I will need to be attached too for the next 30 years. Have you ever been in someones house that bought a ton of quality furniture in the late 70's or early 80's??
  21. #21
I decided to go with some medium quality non-IKEA stuff. Got shafted by not getting approved for financing (poker isn't a job history?), so I had to pay straight cash (ballin?).

    Thanks for the advice everybody.

If you're financing anything without a motor or a roof, you don't need that shit.

Only advice I'll give you is this. I have attended many sales training programs/seminars and everyone has used mattress's as there example of "People never pay retail for a mattress!" evidently they have a huge margin!

The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck."

    Thanks for the advice everybody.

I was offered 5k of credit at this shitball furniture store in chattanooga by simply putting down my estimated salary on the appropriate line. My credit isn't that great (630-650 area) but I have very little debt.

i agree with this outside of getting same as cash payments for a few years. Then its worth the hassle, assuming you're responsible.
